The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy has acquired outright the nine railroads it had been leasing. The merger creates a larger system and follows an $85,000,000 mortgage recently placed on the expanded network.

At the eleventh annual Foresters of America convention in Boston the balloting for officers continued and D. F. Fitzgerald of Worcester was chosen grand chief ranger. Thursday saw elections for several posts led by Daniel J. Kane of Springfield as sub grand chief ranger and William H. Harrigan of Lowell as grand treasurer amid a banquet and parade. The next convention will be held in Lowell.
The Springfield Union quotes a bleak view on Lowell visitors to Lawrence with police efforts to deter them and reports thirteen Lowellites jailed last Saturday for overindulgence. Voters in Lowell split on licenses, with no license supporters hopeful but aware reform will take time.

John E. Archambeault jailed as common drunkard for one month. Stavros Soumakis bound over until Tuesday on assault charge. William Lavelle found not guilty of cruelty to a horse. Louis Landry charged as stubborn child placed on probation. Peter and Marwille Richards convicted of breaking and entering and larceny. Peter sent to the reformatory and Marwille placed on probation.
Mrs Abbie A Welch of Cedarville Kansas visits cousin Assistant Postmaster Richardson at 120 Fort Hill Ave. A former Franklin School teacher and 1860s Missouri educator, she remained loyal to the Union during the Civil War amid ostracism and later regained local friendships.

Mr Ward Clifton and Miss Florence A Jones were married Thursday evening by Rev C B Fisher at the Hotel Vermont in Chelmsford street. Only immediate friends attended. The couple will reside in Lowell.
Lawrence Mead age 22 of Mills Corner Collinsville died yesterday morning at home. He leaves parents and five brothers Patrick James Peter Martin and John Mead and four sisters Misses Mary Annie and Margaret Mead and Mrs Bridget Queenan. Also noted is the death of Mrs Mary Fenton age 26 of 172 Fayette Street wife of Joseph Fenton, leaving her mother as survivor.
Funeral services for Rose Byrne who died in Newark were held from Molloys rooms with a solemn requiem mass at St Peter church conducted by Rev. Mullin and music by Peter Clune. Interment followed at St Patrick cemetery with bearers from Lowell Newark and Lawrence. Separately, Joseph Gauthier had a solemn requiem mass at St Josephs church under Frs Fornier Despatis and Gagnon with burial at St Josephs cemetery under Undertaker Albert.
Rev Franke A Warfield pastor of First Congregational church spoke at the General Association of Massachusetts Congregationalists meeting in Brockton on poverty mitigation. Mr and Mrs F A Flemings hosted Centralville Rebekah lodge staff and officers at 898 High Street with about 70 in attendance. Vocal and instrumental performances included Mrs W H Pepin and mandolin and banjo numbers by J H Handley George and Florence Flemings and Florence Cook Lena Reid was accompanist.
In St John s hospital on May 18 Mrs Eric Erickson age 59 of 47 Bowden street died. Also May 18 Newell A Ranlett aged 80 died in this city. Funeral at 109 Third street Saturday at 2 pm. Burial private. Friends invited.
The Seventh Day Adventist church led by elder A. H. Clark will hold Sabbath services Saturday afternoon at old Highland hall with Sabbath school at 2 and a preaching on The Possible Attainment in Christian Life. The Paige Street church Ladies Aid soci ety hosted its monthly sociable and entertainment Thursday night featuring supper and Junior Endeavor songs readings and Fairyland scenes.
