In Stockbridge on May 13 David Lahey stabbed himself three times in the breast during a literary and musical entertainment. He declared the act was personal and due to an unfortunate love affair. He was moved from the hall to grass, then found at home where neighbors had carried him. A doctor warned one wound was serious and may prove fatal.
In Harrisburg on May 13 brief services were held over five unidentified disaster victims at Market Square Presbyterian Church. They were buried at Paxtang Cemetery after services attended by Harrisburg hospital directors and city officials. One body identified as William H. Holmes of Philadelphia, a commercial traveler. The injured at Harrisburg Hospital mostly improving. three remain critical.
Gen. Corbin's Manila cable reports the army transport Buford struck a coral reef four miles from Malabang with part of the Nineteenth United States Infantry aboard. No leakage noted, but the ship could not be freed as of the latest message. Navy aid sought. Transport Thomas will assist and bring up the 234th Infantry, though Mindanao cable links are uncertain and delays are expected.
Washington May 13 Walter F Matthews of Portland U S marshal for the district of Oregon was removed by order of the president It is understood the action followed a government attorney in Oregon view that Matthews not in harmony with land fraud prosecution Charles J Reed appointed to succeed him
Herbert D Croker son of Richard Croker died May 12 1905 on Santa Fe train No 17 between Kansas City and Newton from narcotic poisoning. Police trace Croker movements in Kansas City his association with Charles Wilson a porter at the Coates house and a Chinese opium joint. Wilson claims they rode to the train and Croker displayed money and drank before boarding. Investigations continue as coroner’s jury probes whether poisoning or drugging caused the death.
Hiram Cronk aged 104 the last survivor of the War of 1812 to be buried in Mount Victory Cypress Hills cemetery Brooklyn will lie in state in New York City Hall under a December aldermen resolution Honorary member of Sons of the American Revolution Cronk born April 29 1800 Frankfort Herkimer County New York enlisted at 14 and served at Sackett’s Harbor and with his father and brothers at the fort He married Mary Thornton in 1825 and lived on a farm in Ava New York for 60 years Cronk received a state pension and the federal pension for war survivors He died May 13 in Rome New York with plans for his earthly remains already outlined by city authorities
In Lexington on May 13 two men died in a river drowning. D Willard Greene 60, head of the Lexington and Boston street railway, and Herbert M Reed 25, a clerk, disappeared after a canoe trip yesterday. Their bodies were recovered early today from the Concord River near West Bedford and Carlisle bridge. Greene leaves a widow. Reed was unmarried.

Cerebrospinal meningitis claimed two more victims today. Gladys Dearth six years old daughter of Asa F and Mildred Dearth of 34 Broadway and Frank McMahon three years old son of Edward and Jane McMahon of 3 Richards court off Andover street died within a day or two of illness. This is the second McMahon death in a week. The Daly children with one death and others ill are reported as improving and likely to recover.
The Police Board of commissioners ordered strict enforcement of liquor sales in hotels after 11 pm with no notice to hotel owners. Superintendent Moffatt stated no leniency for even minor technical violations and that officers will continue to monitor saloons closely.

Frank Lawson a man about 40 years old died in his bed last night from chronic alcoholism. He had lived at 245 Dutton Street and had not worked recently, living on his late father’s $800 inheritance. His body was moved between undertakers A H Bixby Co and Hurd Street, then to await burial under Uncle Thomas Martin’s charge.

St Petersburg on May 13 Vice Admiral Naziroff was shot and killed in his room by an orderly who fired three shots with a revolver. The killer's motive was anger over dismissal from duties and orders to proceed to the front.
