William A. Simsrott died in Chicago on May 12 from consumption. Elected Switchmen's Union secretary-treasurer in 1886, he held the post until 1894 when he disappeared. An investigation showed a $40,000 shortage. He was later found in the Washingtonian Home and the Union declined to pursue charges as it dissolved soon afterward.

Bolton May 11. William Caine died in a house fire after a quarrel with neighbors the night before. The skull was missing from the charred remains, fueling murder theories. Caine, a Civil War veteran with a $2500 estate and a pending divorce, lived alone on a wooded edge road near Wilderman’s mansion to Harvard.
Patterson New Jersey May 11 Fire outbreaks caused 213000 dollars in damage tonight with partial insurance. First blaze started in Hinchliffe Brewing malt house destroying building and contents including 300000 bushels of grain.
Fire at the Amber Carpet mills in Mount Holly New Jersey destroyed three acres of plant area. Estimated losses reach about 300000 with insurance coverage in place. Local fire crews battled the blaze amid smoke and flames, with authorities assessing the scene this afternoon.

About $500 in goods were stolen from W. T. White's residence at Sherman and Nesmith streets in the hours 1 to 2 yesterday morning. The Beeran Primitive Methodist church doors were forced open, but nothing of value was taken. Officer Welch arrested a man named Frank Montgomery for vagrancy, with two others reportedly involved. Police suspect the same culprits committed both break-ins. An unrelated organ recital at Grace Church featured Prof. Horatio W. Parker, Miss Harriet Whittier, and violinist Daniel Kuntz in a well received performance.
Sister Matilda known as Annie Lee, 53, died Monday at Carney hospital South Boston after 18 months illness from consumption. Born in Goshen New York she moved to the city young and joined the Sisters of Charity at 28. Assigned to Carney seven years ago she was a well known hospital attendant. Her death follows four previous sister deaths at the institution this year. Thomas Lee a machine shop worker is a brother and Mrs John Shanley a sister of Sister Matilda.
Mrs Elizabeth M Campbell arrived last Friday on the Allan line S S Peruvian from Glasgow after a 16 day voyage. A machinery accident caused a three day Galway delay, the sole drawback. She is sister to Andrew W Mowatt the printer at this office whom she has not seen in almost 11 years. A large gathering at 37 Beech Street welcomed her with songs, refreshments, and a late night Auld Lang Syne finale.
The regular monthly meeting of the corporation will be held at the rooms in Central block this evening at 8 o'clock. Directors will report a revision of the by-laws to clarify the boards objects and to bolster co operation for local governance and material advancement. Liberty to be heard then. Nathan Rosenberg assault case slated for tomorrow.
Three prisoners at Bridgewater State Farm appeal eight month sentences handed down by Judge Hadley. The offenders Charles Mc Kenna James Gaffney and James Queen were among the men sent to the institution yesterday and reshaped the case as they had prior terms.
John W. Dempsey, popular lieutenant of the Spindle City wheelmen, sails aboard the Catalonia next Saturday for England. He will take his racer and be abroad about three months racing across the sea. A delegation of Spindle City men and Association wheels will ride to Boston with him to see him off.

The St Michael's church bazaar continues with strong attendance and a highlight last night was the gathering of 350 young men from St Patrick's Y M C L S St Peter's Y M C L S and Immaculate Conception Y M C S. They marched through main streets led by St Patrick's Cadet band and were guests at the bazaar with a concert by the band.
The Middlesex Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution held its first annual banquet at the St. Charles hotel. The event commemorated the 121st anniversary of the Battle of Ticonderoga. Edwin S. Barrett of Concord, Massachusetts society president, and J. Allen Davis of Boston attended as guests. Barrett delivered the address, speaking on the recent national convention in Richmond, Virginia.
The Ladies Aid Society of the First Primitive Methodist church held its annual meeting in the vestry last night. After encouraging reports, officers were elected: President Mrs. W. H. Yarrow, Vice President Mrs. Thomas Martin, Secretary Mrs. Joseph Woodcock, Treasurer Mrs. Samuel Medley. A sociable followed with ice cream and cake.
City Treasurer Coburn paid 25000 to A. G. Pollard treasurer of the Textile school for the new institution. The state will match once duties are fulfilled. Pollard and J. T. Smith are in Boston likely to collect the funds. An early meeting will set definite plans for the work.
Several witnesses reported a naked infant or young child’s body floating down the river toward Centralville bridge shortly before noon. Horace Paradis alerted police, with speculation the body may be Frank Berard, a four year old who drowned earlier near Middlesex street by Davis & Sargent’s lumber yard.
