The new army plan creates 15 cavalry regiments 30 infantry regiments 126 coast artillery companies 30 field artillery batteries and 12 engineer companies. In Spartanburg County D C Hampton Ferguson aged 72 claimed road tax exemption and boasted he is father of 69 children after four marriages.
Dover New Hampshire on May 6 reported the dry Sunday result of tight Sunday closing rules. Police raided two venues, the Anderson house on Third Street and a School Street kitchen bar room, forcing doors to gain entry. A liberal supply of mast liquor was found at both places, with a special police officer serving as bartender at the Anderson house.
Joseph Belisle infant son of Dr J D and Lidia Belisle died at his parents home 709 Merrimack street. The body was sent this morning to St Om s Canada for burial.
The funeral for Michael McAloon from 19 Jewett Street was held at St Michael's Church with Rev Fr Carney celebrating Mass. Undertaker O'Donnell led arrangements and bearers included Hugh Gelden James McMahon Richard J McClusky Thomas Callahan Thomas Barry and John Murphy. Burial followed at St Peter's Cemetery. Adelaide Roisjoly had services at St Joseph's Church from 34 Ward Street with Rev Fr Jorget conducting and burial at St Joseph's Cemetery. Bearers listed as E Jette E Frudhomme N and E Berghiaune J Beaulieu and 12 Neveux.
Nina infant daughter of Joseph and Alvina Dufour born May 5 in this city at 538 Moody Street.

In Bristol Rhode Island on May 6 preparations appear complete for launching the Bel mont defender Constitution from the Herreshoff works this evening. No launching program has been arranged and the christening lady is yet to be chosen but will be decided this afternoon. Weather looks perfect and strict limits will keep attendance to a small invited group.
Frances Raymond aged about 30, known as Mrs Frances Schaaffer, ended her life in a West 90th Street flat by sealing windows and doors and filling the room with gas. Found on a couch with wine and whisky nearby, she read a love story she recently wrote titled Maylon. Her husband had died years earlier and she had lived in the building a year.
In Manchester New Hampshire on May 6 police say Cornelius Jones and officer William Foye spoke on Elm street when Philip Trottier aged 27 climbed from a third story window and fell onto them. All three injured Trottier unconscious with skull fracture risk and severe leg wounds. Jones with shoulder injury. Foye with black eye and back strain. Trottier had been staying with an acquaintance in Webster block since arriving Saturday night.
A perceptible earthquake tremor struck southwestern New Hampshire at 3 27 this afternoon. The quake was strongest in Merrimac where it lasted several seconds and was felt over a wide area.
Woman identified as Miss Bugbee assaulted on Elm Street by an unknown man. The attacker struck her with a sharp instrument, splitting her eyeball and inflicting a four inch deep cut over the right eye. Police unknown, investigation ongoing.
State board of arbitration invites Master Carpenters of Lowell to meet on May 9 1901 at the Richardson hotel to seek settlement of disputes. Carpenters union supports the move while contractors have yet to respond. Pickets guard sites. a strikers building association forms led by J T Thomas and David Senate ready to accept union work plans.
The commissioner of internal revenue announces a circuit court decision requiring all retail oleomargarine packages to bear the name and pounds, with marking and branding to enforce the revenue act. Retailers must use new wooden or paper packages marked as described. selling in plain or unsuitable wrappers violates the law.
Worcester on May 6 reports Miss Jennie L. Bugbee assaulted in a fashionable residential area. Police investigate the murderous attack as residents react with concern and seek safety improvements.

The 19th annual session of the Massachusetts Association of Free Baptist Churches will meet at the First Free Baptist Church of Boston Warren Street May 7 to 9. The program includes ministers conferences prayers scripture sermons by Frost Warfield Dexter Howard Ford and Wilson with business sessions, elections, dinners, and a Young People address by Harry S Myers.
The Notre Dame Reading Circle met yesterday afternoon in the academy hall from 4 to 6 o'clock. Members read from Julius Caesar's fourth act and engaged in discussion as part of the regular gathering for May.

Randall O Hara a demented man was found by a police officer this morning in Crosby street. He had escaped from the State hospital at Tewksbury and was later identified as the patient.
Detective Cudmore accompanies Anthony Koch the alleged bigamist to Chicago to stand trial while Koch's Lowell case is continued. Koch, arrested on a Cook county indictment, provided bond after a Chicago officer explained the warrant stems from a complaint by Koch's first wife about a Jan 3 marriage to Mary Burns. Koch says he did not marry his first wife in 1881 and has since had a child with Burns. trial expected within two weeks.
Pleaded guilty and was sent to the State farm. Mary Conlon, the shoplifter who stole a dress shirt from A. C. and George C. Taylor, was ordered to pay a fine of $15 within five days or go to jail for three months. William Ambrose, drunkenness, was fined $5 and placed on probation, the money to be paid in two weeks. Martin A. Richards paid a fine of $3 for drunkenness, Rose Brady went to the workhouse for one month.
The Cradle Roll Kindergarten and Primary children held a May party in the church vestries on Saturday afternoon with about 100 children and 40 parents attending. Miss Mary J. Martin Miss Clara Everett and Mrs C T Upton led the departments. Florence Strout was crowned Queen of the May with pages maids of honor and guards. The event featured games songs a May pole flowers a piano accompaniment by Miss Alice Wing a short prayer by Rev George F. Kenngett and refreshments provided by the Maternal association. Each child left with a May basket.
Amherst college announces its fifty-man strength team totaling 48742.93 kilos with Harold A. Varnum of this city achieving 1641.95 kilos for a new record. Varnum leads in back strength and chest power while tied in leg strength with A H Favour. Other top performers include R S Phillips F A Cook A H Favour and B E L Marcy with totals ranging from 1245.50 to 1288.08 kilos.
A Massachusetts cotton mills representative says orders will shut down one-eighth of looms for an indefinite period due to unfavorable market conditions. Nearby, a lively forest fire below Varnum landing blackened a large area and damaged summer-house surroundings.
