Cambridge May 4 Charles W Bart lett junior counsel for Charles R Eastman on trial for the murder of Richard Grogan Jr concluded the outline of his defence this morning He said Eastman always supposed it was an old rim fire revolver which wounded Grogan and no attempt was made to identify the bullet at the previous trial In October the bullet was shown to Col Dimon of the US Cartridge Co in Lowell who put a private mark upon it The defence is unable to find this private mark on the bullet now produced as the bullet which killed Grogan Eastman will go on the stand.
London report dated May 4 states Jora Kitchener reports ten Boers killed, three wounded and thirteen surrendered since the last update. Allied forces captured 10,286,000 rounds of ammunition 100 wagons and 2000 horses.

New York May 4 A 16 year old girl Della Schraggs frustrated by classroom confinement and barred from earning a living hanged herself at her home 33 Cherry street yesterday The case is attributed to her desire to work rather than attend school and reflects a tragic domestic tragedy reported in the citydiary style.
An Artists' Recital in Odd Fellows hall on Wednesday evening, May 15, aims to draw a large Lowell audience. The event supports the Kurn Hattin homes for boys and girls, founded by Rev. Dr. Dickins on his Westminster, Vermont property.

New members admitted include George W Chadwick George H Dodge Frederick R Lee and Orestes M Pratt all from Lowell or surrounding areas.

Ernest Metcalf, about 23, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon near Colburn street when a moving freight car and switching engine trapped him between cars. He suffered a compound fracture and amputation, died at St Johns Hospital at 9:25 PM. A Weaver by trade, married, he lived on Colburn street. his family resided in Waeyland.
