Boston on March 12 reports a growing strike that began with freight handlers and team drivers and expanded to 20,000 workers. The walkout halts inland and coastwise shipments, snarling freight, docks, and longshore work while authorities seek a resolution. Continued on Page Seven.

Goods to points beyond now travel via Western avenue station, delaying orders and forcing the Thorndike street depot to handle lighter volumes. Some firms report only inconvenience, while others, like Swift & Pailey, face longer lead times for new orders.
New York reports disruption from Boston freight handlers strike. Passengers faced baggage delays as trains arrived from Boston. Perishable freight could not be accepted in Boston, shortening fresh fish supply for the city and causing widespread inconvenience today.
Chicago March 12 A judge denied further hearings in Tenlinden extradition proceedings. The prisoner was turned over to German Consul Wever by U S Marshal Aimes. Tenlinden will be taken to Berlin to face charges of defrauding several Prussian banks of $350 000.
New York March 12 Charles H Warren vice president of the Central Railroad of New Jersey has resigned to join another railroad not yet disclosed His association with the CNJ does not end until June 1
A wind storm in the outer Houston district wrecked about twenty small houses last night. No lives were lost. property damage is not expected to exceed $15,000.
London notices report diamond merchants H. G. Emmy & Co. have failed. Liabilities are estimated at 70 pounds.
Albany March 12 Gov Odell ordered the extradition of Joseph W Blondin to Massachusetts to face a wife murder charge. No opposition was offered by Blondin and the papers arrived with a Massachusetts officer. Blondin, in custody in New York City, will be sent to Massachusetts at once.
William H. Hofmeister former supreme recorder of the Legion of Honor is shown in a signed report to have been short in lodge accounts by 30 514 dollars. The discrepancy covers ten years and was found after an audit by lodge officers with an expert accountant. Hofmeister died by his own hand on January 21, within twelve hours of losing re-election.
Milwaukee March 12 The Allis-Chalmers company posted that from April 1 wage raises of 5 percent will apply to all employees and a Saturday half holiday will be granted. Edwin Reynolds said the rise covers 2500 Milwaukee workers and 6000 in Chicago Buffalo Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The move aligns with demands by striking machinists.
Helena march report says the Trainmen and Switchmen union committee has called out crews in Helena Butte and Wallace yards and on all work trains between Deer Lodge and Thompsons Falls. Only four trains have run since Monday, staffed by yard masters and new crews.

Detroit authorities approve a franchise for the Cooperative Telephone company formed to challenge Bell. The ordinance caps rates at 24 dollars for residences and 48 dollars for businesses and requires the company to sell its plant to the city when municipal telephone service is created. The council also orders the mayor to appoint a commission to install a municipal gas plant under an old law enabling city ownership.

Helena Mont March 12 The supreme court has issued a writ of mandamus directing Judge BE W Harney to show why he has not ruled on Miles Finlen's motion for a new trial in the Minnie Haley mine case It has been about 50 days since the motion was filed Finlen seeks a decision to appeal if unfavorable Judge Harney must show cause on Monday.
A blaze on the Aiken street dump destroyed the shanty used for sorting and baling old paper. Firefighters worked from about 7 PM until 1 AM, and the refuse pile required careful handling. No further damage reported.
