Aerial electric ferry opens in Duluth first of its kind

The Duluth aerial ferry bridge, the first structure of this kind in the United States, is completed and in operation. It uses two 50 horsepower electric motors to propel a suspended car across the canal in about one minute, with a potential speed of twice that. The canal widening, piers, and land-bridge plan stemmed from the need for cheaper, better across water transit. The system includes an insulated track within the lower chord, four rails, and rolling bearings of the roller type, with an annual operating cost projected at 7500 dollars, saving a third of steam ferry costs.

Political movement likened to a train by senator
