D A R outing highlights historic Sudbury inn visit
The Molly Varnum chapter of the D A R spent an all day trip to Sudbury on Friday. They rode a 7 15 train to South Sudbury and boarded a barge to the Wayside Inn two miles away. A guided tour showcased the inn’s long history from the Howe family origins in 1683 to 1897 ownership by Edward R Lemon. The group viewed relics from the revolutionary era, including a Paul Revere print, a Hessian guarded fire place, a Longfellow Tales reference, and rooms named Lafayette and Longfellow. After lunch they toured monuments to Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers before returning by trolley, concluding a delightful outing.
