The Merrimack River Baptist Sunday School association concluded its 88th anniversary at Branch Street church. Rev Nathan Bailey spoke on home life shaping character and Rev J H Parshley discussed the Christ type in Sunday school teaching. The event featured Miss A M Stone singing and a 70 delegate turnout. The evening included a chorus and Rev S T Ford addressing Darwinism in the Sunday School.
The sale of the William Bascom estate at Wilder and Grove streets by J. E. Conant & Co. attracted a good turnout with lively bidding. The property fronted Asa C. Russell and Solomon K. Dexter on Wilder street and ex-City Engineer George B. Evans on Grove street, including a residence, stable, and lawn. Walter L. Parker bought the main estate for 8250 dollars, and a Merrimack street building opposite city hall used by Bijou theatre and stores sold to Andrew C. Wheelock for 3.19 dollars per square foot. A strong showing of local real estate men attended.

Over 4000 enemy casualties and captures exceed one third of their force. survivors scatter south toward Imus. Three of five artillery pieces captured as the navy aids shore operations. A Bremen steamer carrying 66 cabin and 1600 steerage passengers is held at quarantine after an eight month old child on board contracts small pox. All exposed persons will be examined and vaccinated if needed. Contacts will be sent to Hoffman Island and the ship disinfected.
New York June 15. Sampson's war ships the New York Indiana Massachusetts and Texas sailed this morning from New York for Boston to participate in the Bunker Hill day celebration. A dense fog at the start prevented land visibility and they will arrive in Boston Friday afternoon.

Lebanon Missouri June 15 Congressman Bland died this morning after a sleep of 32 hours. He had served in Congress and was known for his work in national and local politics. The death ends a long public career and triggers tributes from colleagues across parties.
June 14 in New York Justice Beach of the supreme court denied the application of Roland B. Molineux for writs of habeas corpus certiorari and prohibition.
The Notre Dame academy graduation was held at the school on Adams Street at 10 o clock with Archbishop Williams, Boston Congressman Henry F. Napheen and Mayor Crowley among attendees. The program featured an overture, salutatory, honors conferred on seven graduates, and multiple musical and literary performances by students.
In prophecy by Miss Rose B Creakin and Miss Mary C Lyons in her vale dictory praised Notre Dame, closing with affectionate words to teachers and parents. The final chorus was followed by a brief address of congratulation by His Grace. The usual social followed, and all present partook of the Sisters hospitality of light refreshment.

At the regular Company C meeting in the armory last night Lieutenant Thomas Livingston was elected captain and Colby T. Kittredge named first lieutenant. Private Frank G. Rose won the second lieutenant post after a tight race with Sergeants Mitchell and Wisner, with strong backing and a large turnout of over 50 members. Rose’s prior service includes Brooklyn cadet corps and a stint in the Twenty-Third Regiment during the Brooklyn strike.
The Westminster Presbyterian church is undergoing extensive repairs with an expected completion around July first. The project estimates total about $500 with walls ceilings and woodwork being painted and kalsein ed, the roof repaired, and the kitchen moved from the basement to the first floor.
Miss Melvina Lapierre remains unconscious and critical at her Sargent Street home after a tandem bicycle crash on Sunday night. Reports last night indicated slight improvement in her condition.

A near unanimous vote made Lieut Kittredge first lieutenant while Frank G. Rose secured election as lieutenant after a long wait. Rose, present later by telephone, thanked the members and his father A E Rose, treasurer of J C Ayer, for influencing his candidacy. Rose is a medical journal editor in New York City and plans to settle in the city.
Company C conducted a brief drill and inspection after a business meeting with Major Greig presiding. The unit praised for excellent marching. Announcement made that no drill next Wednesday due to the marriage of Sergi Mitchell and Miss Elizabeth McKelvey, to which the company is invited.
In police court this morning seven drunks faced fines. John F Murphy and Thomas F Lynch, both with records, were fined $6 each. John J Harrihan Charles Proctor and Michael McCleary, first offenders, were fined $5 apiece. McCleary was arrested in Dracut. O'Hearn pleaded guilty to drunkenness for his third offence in a year and was sent to the workhouse for four months. Moriarty caused a disturbance on the car and resisted arrest. he was fined $5 after being convicted. Gowing pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery. case continued to June 29. Katsikas case postponed to Monday. Pike pleaded guilty to selling short lobsters and paid a $5 fine. McBride case postponed to July 15. Wickenden’s drunkenness offense placed on file.

The dry weather has not affected driven well water supply yet with usage up two million gallons daily over normal. The water department runs three driven well plants though pumping exceeds demand, and reservoir levels have fallen enough to justify raising them. At the Fourth of July committee meeting tonight subcommittees will present progress reports and Lieut Col Ames will attend to discuss parade makeup.
Aid from the state department to Spanish war soldiers and relatives this year amounts to 1828 dollars. The pauper department has spent 23,584.21 on outdoor relief and has 21,244.09 left. The street department shows 76,574.29 in credit.

Elizabeth Robiel died at the city hospital yesterday aged 59. David Moore aged 64 died Tuesday night at the city farm where he had been an inmate for ten years and was once known as an eccentric figure. Mrs Eliza Clare died this morning at 185 Grand Street aged 33 years and 10 months, leaving husband John W. Clare and three daughters Nellie Sarah A. and Ethel, plus her mother Mrs Mary E. Foster and brothers James H. and Robert Foster.
The funeral of Mary J Mc Cue was held at St Patrick's church this morning at 9 30. Rev Fr Burke officiated. Bearers were James Boyle John Boyle John A Gately and Henry Mac Donald. The body was sent by Undertaker ODonnell to Providence R I for burial.
