Manila June 10 daybreak a force under generals Lawton Wheaton and Overshine from San Pedro Macati swept the country between Manila Bay and the lake south of Manila clearing the area nearly to Paranaque. American losses included 2 officers killed and 21 soldiers wounded. Rebels fought hard leaving fifty dead in trenches and many wounded left behind during retreat as heat caused prostrations among the Americans.

Hon William W Bailey a noted Nashua lawyer died shortly after 6 pm Friday at Nashua hospital after a brief pneumonia illness. Born in Hopkinton in 1829 he graduated Dartmouth 1854 Albany Law School 1856 and practiced in Nashua. He served as city solicitor and state legislator and held multiple bank and rail positions. He was a trustee of the state library at death and a longtime Mason and church member.
He leaves a widow, a son Dr. William T. Bailey, and a daughter Miss Helen G. Bailey.
The mayor refus es to sign requisitions for the supply department citing the city charter requiring mayoral approval. T H Muldoon is disputed as head, while inspectors Fenton and Barrett are mentioned. The court may decide Muldoon’s wages and role as acting head, impacting contracts and paving on Mam moth road Suffolk and Bridge streets.
Miss Adeline Blaisdell aged 42 living at Newhall and Chambers street grew insane on Wednesday and was taken to the city farm. The next day her aged mother also deteriorated and was sent to the hospital there. Blaisdell had been bitten by a cat months earlier and during her illness adopted feline cries and spitting. The two women, long-time residents together, now face grave mental affliction.
At Burke Temperance hall last night the Brussels carpet weavers of Lowell honored Mr Joseph Casey with a handsome gold watch presented by President-Elect Geo Farrow. Entertainment featured songs by John Murray Michael Gorman May Milley Glen Wilson Daniel McCaffry a negro specialty Geo Shanks harmonica Master Lynch a duet by the Misses Perrin songs by Peter Ball and Master Arthur Walker. Committee in charge Geo Farrow chairman Albert Richardson Arthur McFayden.

An advertisement touts Hood's Sarsaparilla as purifying blood to treat chronic blood poisoning from smallpox. A testimonial from Mrs. J. T. Williams of Carbondale Pa credits the remedy with curing extensive skin itch and illness after doctors failed. Hood's Pills are promoted as a non irritating liver cathartic to accompany the tonic.
Suffolk superior court heard McKenzie testify about his engagement to Nellie Lougest and the marriage to Dr. Longest, with letters from Nellie detailing affection and fear. Defense portrayed Nellie as seeking comforts from the Longests, while Dr. Longest described her as troubled and driven by her child. The case resumes Monday with further witnesses.
Liquor inspectors conducted multiple raids at several locations capturing 28 gallons of ale, two cases of lager beer, 20 gallons of whiskey in bulk and two bottles of whiskey. Additional finds included 10 gallons of ale at 96 Fenwick street and 109 Merrimack street two bottles of whiskey, 437 Market street eight gallons of beer, and a jug of liquor from the Everett house. A barrel of whiskey and two cases of lager beer were seized at 98 Fenwick street. Two gallons of rum, improperly marked, were seized Thursday. Goods currently stored in the police station cellar.
Michael J. Kelley aged 20 and Fred A. Lovejoy aged 22 both of the city broke into a Nashua dwelling and stole 60 dollars. They were found with 36 dollars in silver on their persons and were arrested for drunkenness by Tyngsboro officer Perry Flint before being taken to Nashua to answer the charge.
The cemetery trustees of Boston awarded the chapel contract at Mt Hope to Connors Brothers of Lowell for 16200 dollars. They were the lowest of seven bidders.
The Vesper Golf Club faces Newton Centre Club this afternoon at the Country Club in a local golf match. The event brings local sports fans to the greens to watch the teams compete for prize may be announced.
In Lowell police court Dennis A. Sullivan, manager of the Lowell Daily News, was found guilty of solicitation under the 1897 liquor law and fined 100 dollars. The defense argued the law permits lawful sales in no license towns and that advertising a lawful business should not be punishable. Several other cases followed including fines for John Quinn and a not guilty verdict for Annie Coleman over a lease purchase.
Calvin T Wright aged about 81, of Chelmsford, died yesterday at his Acton Street home after years of declining health. Born in Chelmsford he farmed for decades and is survived by two sonsGeorge B and Edward C of Chelmsford two daughtersMrs Charles Parkhurst of Somerville and Mrs F A Page of Lowell his wife Martha Chamberlain died years ago. Also noted Michael Connell 66 died at 34 Wall Street and Lucell L Kelley 46 died at 153 Congress Street leaving widower and three sons Eugene C Arthur G and Frederick D Kelley.
Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock yesterday morning at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Lawrence officiating. Bearers were Michael McKeon Patrick Meehan Michael McGlinchey Thomas Quinn Patrick Kelley and Michael McAleer. Burial followed in the Catholic cemetery with Undertaker O'Donnell in charge.
