Kentuckians William Burns and Thomas Lyons killed an unknown man who refused to share a keg of beer and fatally shot Patrolman MecQueery while fleeing. Burns jumped from a suspension bridge into the river but was captured.
Mrs Admiral Dewey dropped a star diamond pendant valued at 8000 dollars while leaving the Fellowcraft club in Detroit. A colored boy found the piece in a gutter, mistaking it for a buckle, and recovered the jewel.

John Lewis a 54 year veteran of the Boston post office and former Jamaica Plain postmaster died at 77. Born in Charlestown he joined the Boston office in 1846 under Nathaniel Green and rose to chief clerk before later serving as superintendent of the inquiry department and Jamaica Plain postmaster until ill health forced his resignation. He directed crucial post fire moves in 1872 and remained in service until his death. Also passing was C H Peterson of Portland Maine Life Insurance who led the Maine Underwriters’ Association and was active in Freemasonry.
Henry Wellesley third Duke of Wellington died at Strathfieldsaye house Mortimer Berkshire on Friday morning at age 55. He was a prominent British noble and military figure, leaving a notable legacy and title. The death will be mourned by his family and peers in the peerage.
J M Anthony, brother of Susan B Anthony and Col D R Anthony and editor of the Leavenworth Times, collapsed and died of heart disease at Fort Scott Kansas on Friday. He had been a prominent business man for 30 years.

Lecadie Lezotte, a 3 year old girl from Gore Street, identified by Dr. Patenaude, is removed with two children to the contagious hospital after preliminary examination by Drs. Livingston and Lavigne. The case, likely smallpox in early stages, follows exposure to the Monbleau family and lack of vaccination.
Willie Holden aged 12 and two companions swam in the Concord river between the railroad bridge and the electric power house. Holden could not swim and went under after leaving the bank to join friends. James Powell attempted rescue and recovered the body. He died at St John’s Hospital after failed revival efforts.
