Chicago police believe Mrs. Marie Danilovsky aged 57 was lured from her home by fellow countrymen seeking money. Her body with a bullet wound was found in a lonely Illinois Central spot. Three gold rings and $60 were missing, with an Austrian acquaintance and her husband suspected alongside Edward Danilovsky and an expressman.
Rev Henry H Jessup on furlough in New York speaks at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian on Turkish affairs. He notes missionary work aiding women’s emancipation and warns that German influence may block Turkey’s collapse while highlighting potential commercial and industrial opportunities.
Rev and Mrs Charles Tilton formerly of Highland M E church marked twenty years of marriage with a reception at their home 20 Lincoln Street Lynn. Tilton is presently a pastor in Lynn. Dr Augustin Thompson, ill in a Boston hospital, is reported very low today.
A manager at Vital Force reports a sneak thief stole a box containing a dozen tablets from a Belvidere drug store during a brief visit. The manager speculates the thief may have taken money and notes, If the thief is cured of his sin of stealing he is welcome to the entire dozen.

St Louis, June 8. In Madison near St Louis a flood traps a group of nine men. J R Elder of American Car and Foundry says nine men were washed away and drowned. Surviving whereabouts unknown, reports place them on a crumbling levee or in a car works building. Rescue attempts by Annie Russell and Mark Twain are underway as the river climbs to 37.4 feet.
Clinton June 8 Dr. David J Bastian 66 died at home from injuries after a Lancaster auto wreck. Native of Statesville NC he owned slaves at Civil War start but opposed secession. He fled his town and worked as a nurse in New York naval hospital then studied dentistry. Practised in Lowell Boston Portland before moving to Clinton 33 years ago.
Wakefield reports the brown tail moth swarming through the town and blamed for a rash like skin eruption with swelling and itching. Physicians say an antidote is unavailable and hundreds are affected as trees are coated with moths, yielding the outbreak the name brown tail rash.
Lynn June 8 Up to noon no strike order had been issued by the building trades council in support of the building laborers strike for higher pay EB D Dearborn brought a dozen Italians from Boston to tend on work at Lynn hospital Union pickets persuaded half of the group to quit Eight bricklayers remain at work defying union instructions for members to refuse non union tenders A committee waited on Lynn hospital corporation president L Johnson who could only advise Dearborn to employ union men
John Sidney aged 22 of 50 Bartlett Street suffered a serious left foot injury when a heavy steel rail being lifted by Boston & Northern Street Railway workers near Fifteenth Street fell on his foot before 10 this morning. He was moved to Merrimack Square and then to St Johns hospital by ambulance.
Pretoria dispatch reports that in response to opposition to municipal enfranchisement of colored men the government will amend the municipal ordinance to exclude aliens as well as colored men. The change restricts the franchise to white British subjects.
London June 8 visiting Philadelphia cricketers began their English series with a match at Cambridge University. They batted first and by lunch had 139 for four wickets, showing solid start.
About 400 workers in the finishing rooms of several American Writing Paper company mills went on strike over wage terms. Cutter girls from Nonotuck No 1 initiated the action, seeking 35 cents extra after an offered 10 cent advance. With 4000 employed locally, the walkout affects multiple divisions and may widen. International President Mackey was telegraphed and expected to travel to Holyoke.
San Francisco reports two graveyard vandalism incidents by striking grave diggers. A grave dug for a funeral was filled with water delaying the service. At the crematory an oil spill caused an explosion during ignition, injuring two workers and damaging the plant.
A citywide police court session led by Judge Hadley saw a string of guilty pleas from a diverse group of defendants. Mary Dusty, John Kenney, Elizabeth Santry and Alice F. Quigley received fines or jail terms for an Adams Street at home event, while Alfred Germain faced workhouse time. George H. Greenleaf and James Finnegan drew workhouse or suspended sentences as authorities noted drink and gambling linked misbehavior. Rosario St George and John H. Quinn faced four months or bond terms for vagrancy and escape, and John Lyons received a five month jail sentence for assault amid domestic strife. D. J. Donahue appeared for the government.
Avery Marshall, formerly superintendent of commons and boss farmer at the city farm, returns to his former post at the city institution and will lead many farmers as high worthy juggler of the hoe. Joseph F. Fay resigns. Dr. Donlan appoints Marshall to succeed him.
The strike leaders failed to summon skilled help as mills enter a second week of operation with a larger force. At 10 am about 9497 operatives were at work, 71 percent of the total, with loom fixers and beamers showing modest gains. Officers report old operatives returning from other cities, while union leaders claim growing ranks and stronger cash support from affiliates. A mass meeting is set for Huntington hall to discuss outlook and strategy.
