Her first husband was Mr. Slaughter, a cotton manufacturer, and she claimed an 1882 marriage to Louis James. The garbage contract signed by the board of health was delayed by insufficient postage and lost en route. It was located after a board of health letter and telegram, and will be sent to Mayor Crowley upon receipt. Agent J R Gilkyson of the company explained the envelope was held by Toledo postmaster and released for special delivery after wire requests.

Frank Ducey ten year old of 19 Charles street was badly mauled by a leopard at a circus, claws ripped face neck and head, keeper beat the animal, boy fainted and was rushed to hospital where wounds were cauterized and expected to heal slowly. Several leopards loomed behind a loose cage. Eyes escaped injury, but facial wounds were severe.
The Board of Health held a special meeting on Saturday afternoon and elected Horace H. Knapp agent of the department. Democrats Fifield and Mulligan voted for Knapp, Dr. Packer against. The meeting was not advertised. Names from civil service were Knapp, Bates, and Murphy. Bates has handled multiple roles and faces a vacancy question if Knapp is elected. Mulligan had previously stated he would not vote for Knapp, influencing public expectations.
Moise Robert a 55 year old carpenter was working on the roof of the old Washington tavern when the gutter supporting the staging broke. He fell about 16 feet to the piazza roof, was unconscious on pickup but regained partial consciousness later. He was taken to his home in Arthur avenue Pawtucketville for treatment and the skull fracture status was not yet known.
A small service at St George church in Stuyvesant Square New York joined renowned actress Marie Wainwright and actor Franklyn Roberts who was her leading man this season in Shall We Forgive Her The couple plan a London summer aboard the Menominee and then a staged return with W A Brady and Miles Fifi and Frohman managed tours with Odette Tyler Roberts and Wainwrights family ties noted to Commodore Wainwright and Bishop Wainwright.
Fifteen drunks faced Judge Fisher this morning with $5 fines for listed defendants. Others were fined $6 each, including Ellen Hannan and Margaret Cavanaugh. Albert Berrard’s drunkenness and assault case was continued at $300. Dennis Wood's threat case assigned six months peace bond at $100. Minor continuances include Patrick M Andrews, and James Panagakes. James Miller, James Miller, and Thomas Miller were fined $3 for profanity.
The Lawrence Sun reports a chaotic Saturday night with a police wagon taking two calls simultaneously and 35 names on the blotter. Many detainees hailed from Lowell and several intoxicated individuals were described with injuries, including a man who fell from a Park Hotel window.
St John s Hospital bazaar committee voting at a meeting yesterday ordered all season ticket coupons returned on or before next Sunday. Awards for listed articles will be made later in the week. The Lowell Homing Club held its third old bird race from Paterson New Jersey on June 3200 miles with 24 birds. Dyer led with 10 birds, Youngjohn 9, Stanley 2, Fletcher 2, Fralick 1. Birds were liberated at 11 45 a m in fair weather but timing began early Sunday morning due to a mistaken liberation. Dyer's first bird arrived at 4 42 o'clock winning a chair and multiple diplomas. Youngjohn had the next entries.

James P. Smith aged 86 and a longtime member of Engine 4 died at his home 57 Chestnut street. He is survived by a wife a mother and two sisters. Jonathan Cuthbertson a former city resident died in Charlotte NC on the 3rd aged for many years owner of The Textile Excelsior. He will be missed by many in the textile world. A wife son and daughter survive him.
The town held multiple funeral services Saturday for Ellen Crowley Ferdinand Redliff Mrs Almira N Hobbs Patrick Cohen Maria H Ames and Henrietta Ellison. Masses and services were led by several priests with burials in Lowell and North Berwick cemeteries. Delegations from Old Fellows and Masons attended with arrangements by Charles Farrington and Peter H Savage.
Ellison died Saturday at her parents home on Queen Street. The service was held Sunday at 8 PM conducted by Rev Asa Reed Dills. Burial followed in Edson Cemetery with Undertaker Weinbeck in charge. Also noted is the funeral for William H Kimball held Saturday at 2:30 PM from his Stevens Street home. Delegations from Post 185 G A R old Co G Builders' Exchange where he served as president and from the Middlesex Rifle Club attended. Rev Merriam officiated with singing by Mrs Saunders. Burial again in Edson Cemetery with Undertaker Weinbeck.
Mr John F McCarron and Miss Margaret E O Brien wed this morning at 9 o clock in Immaculate Conception church with Rev William D Joyce officiating. Bridesmaid Rose Morris and best man James Flood supported, John Gagan was usher. A wedding breakfast followed at 161 Concord street and the couple will reside at 175 Pleasant street after a brief wedding trip.
On Saturday June 3 at the Fifth Street Baptist parsonage John Bain of Lawrence and Margaret McErven of Lowell were united in marriage by Rev. H W O Millington.
Ruth Shaw aged 96 died at her son in law A A Usher 465 Parker street Friday June. She leaves two children D W Shaw of Kennebunkport Maine and Mrs A A Usher of this city. A Highland Methodist Church member she will be funeral Monday at 2 pm from 465 Parker street. Friends invited.
Lowell records a population of 88 641 with 45 total deaths and 18 deaths under five. Infectious diseases totaled 6 with measles at 38 cases and scarlet fever at 4. diphtheria 1 and other diseases minimal. The week’s death rate was 26.39 compared with 18.18 and 22.87 in the prior two weeks.
A preliminary meeting at the Parker house in Boston last week appointed J. H. Guillet of Lowell president pro tem and Alphonse Gaulin of Worcester secretary pro tem for the proposed Historical Society of French Americans.
