Lowell Mill Strikes End in Wage Loss After Idleness
The Lowell mill strikers endured nine weeks of idleness resulting in a wage loss equal to 15 percent over a year. Six mills would have paid about 1.2 million in wages and 250 thousand on supplies. With a 6 percent dividend and 4 percent depreciation, mills face about 200 thousand in losses. The Boston Record suggests it would be fortunate if manufacturers' terms are accepted to end the dispute without harming labor.
