Fall River July 28 Two boys William Dillon and Max Sacher were seriously scalded when steam was accidentally turned on at the Algonquin print works. They were rushed to a hospital and it is feared they will die from their injuries.
A son of J Publicover, eight years old, drowned today at the harbor head in Gloucester. He was gathering wood on a wharf, fell into the water, shouted for help, and went under before rescuers could reach him.
Mrs George H Nichols 41 was found hanged in her Smith Dow flats room at 1426 Elm Street. The death appeared self inflicted after a failed attempt to loosen the cord. She had recently lived apart from her husband, with sister Miss Fanny E Chapman present. surviving siblings numbered two brothers and three sisters.
Providence July 28 report says James Rogers Jr aged 9 was struck by the New London accommodation train due in the city at 7 45 pm near the Acorn street crossing and killed instantly. His skull was fractured and his neck and both legs broken. The boy tried to cross the tracks just before the incoming train.
Boston July 28 Commander W J Baxter assumes control of the naval construction department at Charlestown Navy Yard, relieving Captain Jos Feaster who retires at age 62. Baxter, Annapolis graduate class of 19..., arrives from Mare Island yard California.
Boston notes that President Diaz of Mexico may visit in October as Chicago cornerstone ceremony plans prompt a national tour. Charles A. Gordon reports assurances Diaz will attend and the committee intends a special train to visit major cities including Boston. Mayor Quincy has extended the invitation.
Heath Brothers fish dealers from Manchester by the Sea and Alfonso Taft were arraigned in district court on charges of illegally maintaining fish weirs at Kettie and Canas Islands. After a long session with no witnesses called, Judge Taft acquitted them amid cheers from Gloucester vessel owners and bait suppliers.
Miss Florence Eliza Smith of Cypress street Newton Centre marries Dr Granville Stanley Hall president of Clark University Worcester in a 6.30 p m ceremony at First Baptist church attended by about 500 guests. Washington July 28 The War Department received Gen Otis cable reporting Hall with 1000 men captured Calamba a strategic post on Laguna de Bay driving out 800 insurgents. Casualties include Privates Gleesupp McDuffy Totten seriously wounded and others lightly killed and wounded. Forty Spanish prisoners released and a Spanish gunboat captured.

David D. Smith of 4 Fourth Street pulled a rusty one and a half inch needle from his side at J. J. Shea fish dealer in Bridge Street. He had suffered annual pains blamed on stomach trouble until the needle was removed, ending his long ordeal.
A Bolivar Rock Street accident claimed the life of John Sullivan, about 11, after lumber from Pratt & Forrest wagons toppled and rolled into the street. The lad, believed to have hung onto a wagon rope, was buried beneath the load as it shifted. Ambulance rushed to St. John's hospital but he died en route.
Wilfred Laflamme and Edward J. Cutting were each fined five dollars. Adelai Tessier found guilty of drunkenness and the case placed on file. Edward Harris a tramp from Chicago, a former minstrel, sentenced to the State farm at Bridgewater. Harris claimed he spent nearly all his money after leaving Montreal. Simon Shervin and Ella Lockhart cases continued to next Wednesday. John McBride and Kate Coleman charged with illegal liquor kept, continued to August 1.
A Tuesday excursion will depart Merrimack Square at 8:00 a m for Lynn and Nahant. The trip is open to the church members and others who wish to attend, led by the pastor and Deacon Brigham.
Nellie Trombley died this morning at 38 Cady Street, home of her parents Mr and Mrs Edward Trombley after a long illness. A book keeper and devout Catholic she belonged to St Peter's church. Her early education was at Immaculate Conception school and Notre Dame academy.
