Lowell branch of the Volunteer Aid Association held a morning meeting at the Ministry at Large with Mrs Charles H Allen presiding. Committees reported on hospital garments and food for wounded and on shipments to Boston for the hospital ship Bay State slated to sail next week. Volunteers asked to deliver lists of workers and contributions by July 29 for the upcoming weekly report.
City and Harvard Brewing Company concluded a daylong meeting in city hall regarding Hale's brook. The plan keeps a 15 inch sewer through Tanner street to the brewery yard, with the city covering all costs and the brewing firm paying a $1400 entering assessment.
George F. Cummings died at his Auburn home after a long mill career spanning New England. He served 12 years as superintendent of works for Stoneville Manufacturing Co Worcester and earlier worked in mills in Lowell Nashua and Manchester New Hampshire. He moved to Auburn from North Chelmsford where he was longtime superintendent and formerly ran his own business. He was active in local Odd Fellows Nashua commandery K T Worcester Veteran Firemen and had two sons C N and George W and two daughters Minnie and Alice W all of Auburn. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the family residence.

Mrs A B Carter of North Andover has been away several months visiting relatives in Lowell Billerica and Tewksbury. she is 78 as of last July 6 and remains active.
Lieut Ashburn sent a group to Fort Warren this morning. The list includes Michael O’Brien, Albert A. Stuart, John H. O’Neill, Wm. D. Spofford, Frederick Sullivan, Peter Boissonneau and others from addresses in Lawrence Hudson and Winthrop. Recruiting office in Lawrence to open today with Sergt Martyn and Dr Daly in charge.
Nesmith James Ernest Nesmith died July 26 at home Andover street funeral July 28 at 2 30 p m burial private. McMahon William E. died July 26 at 6 Bartlett street sons Peter and Elizabeth McMahon nine months seven days. Murray Michael aged 21 died July 26 at St Johns hospital.
