A dispute over revenue stamps on death certificates pits undertakers against city health officials. Although most undertakers agreed to pay, one refused burial without the physician paying. The board of health allowed the funeral proceeds, and the undertaker later filed the death return with the stamp, albeit under protest.
The republican state convention will be held in Music hall Boston on Thursday October 6 at 10 a m. Congressman William H Moody of Haverhill is to be chairman and Congressman William S Knox of Lawrence chairman of the resolutions committee. Funeral services were held yesterday for D Eugene Maker from the home of Mr and Mrs George Maker with Rev John L Short officiating. Interment was in Edson cemetery and bearers included Percival G Barnard Charles E Montgomery Arthur Thurston and Lewis E MacBrayne. A Sons of Veterans delegation attended. Solon H Mason died in an accident on July 4 and his funeral was at his father’s Pine Street home with Rev C L Merriam officiating. A Boys Brigade delegation attended and the casket bore the brigade flag. Floral tributes included a large cross from his Sunday school class and teacher Mrs Chas E Osgood and a pillow from Boys Brigade.
