Key West July 6 Report indicates the Spanish warship Alfonzo XII tried to run the Havana blockade and was captured by an American cruiser. Two more ships are expected today from Santiago with seriously wounded soldiers.

James Mc Gillin, a Maine and New Hampshire Granite Co. employee in Redstone New Hampshire, was struck by a stone wagon this morning. One leg was severed and he suffered severe injuries and died this afternoon. He leaves a wife and four daughters.

The event, an annual Lowell mercantile highlight, is expected to outpace prior seasons.
Lieut Ashburn reports several close West Point friends killed at Santiago including N Benchley of Worcester and Henry McCorkle of the Twenty Fifth Infantry. T A Roberts of the Tenth Cavalry and Benchley were barracks mates. Benchley was a popular social leader. Recruits arrive slowly at Hildreth building as Cnin and Mooney are sworn in.
A $125 check from George Motley of 95 Nesmith Street was presented to the mayor for the Soldiers' Relief fund. A letter from Frances H. Drew M D of New York dated June 28, 1898 accompanies the donation expressing support for Lowell troops and enclosing a further $5 contribution.
Professor James K. Allen rode a balloon for about an hour Monday afternoon then again Tuesday morning. He remained in North Reading overnight and ascended near Wakefield before noon. He landed in Lowell yesterday afternoon reporting unusually smooth sailing.
The Buckley family of Gorham street has five sons. Four are already in the service and the fifth plans to enlist soon. Cornelius F. Buckley serves in Co. L Fifth Infantry in South Framingham. Patrick Buckley is in Cuba with a regiment of regulars formerly stationed in Missouri. William and Edward Buckley belong to the Ninth Massachusetts, also in Cuba. John F. Buckley stays in Lowell and intends to enlist at the earliest opportunity.
A report sent to San Francisco from the steamer Pennsylvania describes the McCarthy family stranded at Buenos Ayres with no funds to continue their Klondike journey. They departed New York in February aboard the schooner Atenea and lack money for essential boat repairs. Purser William R. McCarthy, a printer from 13 Harrison Street, is part of the voyage.
A woman visiting City Hall this morning for Soldiers Relief fainted and did not regain consciousness for over 10 minutes. A dispensary clerk gave medicine with no immediate effect. The woman's husband is serving at the front.

A badly mangled body was found near the Sixth Arch bridge on the Boston and Maine line last evening. Bystanders Thomas Howard and James Keegian reported the discovery. the remains were taken to Molloy’s undertakers and then to the city hospital. An empty pocketbook, a jackknife, a Worcester paper from June 7, and tattooed initials F. F. were found on the body. Identity is unknown and the cause of death remains conjectural.
A pair of Benj amin Carney’s horses from North Billerica backed into the canal at Talbot's Mills this morning with wagon attached. They were rescued by the aid of a derrick after sinking into the water.

The funeral for Daniel Hart was held yesterday from his 46 Lewis Street home with Father Burke officiating. Bearers included David O Neil, Michael Lynch, Jeremiah Santry, Michael Horan, Michael Mulcahey, and Cornelius Sullivan. Interment followed at the Catholic cemetery under Undertaker O Donnell.

Left Camp Alger as orders arrived at noon. The Sixth Massachusetts, first from the Second brigade, marched out at 3.20 PM with cheers from Eighth Ohio and Sixth Illinois. They proceed to Charleston to board Yale and Harvard for Santiago, while Eighth Ohio heads to New York to join St Paul.
