In Tongawa Oklahoma Eli Blake postmaster and Baptist deacon was beaten to death by a gang last night. He led a campaign to close a local saloon and had received threats to stop. The crime occurred in Wichita Kansas reporting location on January 27.
A match race on the river above the falls is set for tomorrow afternoon at 3 o clock with a $25 side bet per entrant. It will be the best two of three heats. Saturday at 2 o clock a separate race with twelve entries offers a house lot prize and will be run best three of five heats.
San Antonio January 27. Returns on ore from the Raschel mine near here show a value of 16450 dollars per ton. The vein runs eighteen feet wide and there is widespread excitement over the discovery involving ex-Congressman Thomas Raschel.

A horse owned by George B. Melloon, a Centralville provisions dealer, bolted yesterday before 8 pm racing down Merrimack street. It tangled with a Cogger Bros. wood wagon on Canal street near the Massachusetts mills, fatally injuring Cogger Bros. horse. The animal was removed by the Lowell Rendering Company and the other horse was stopped.
A Worthen Street Epworth League sociable Wednesday at C. W. Fisk 105 School Street drew many leaguers from local and other chapters. A phonograph performance pleased guests while a cake coffee lemonade table in red and white decor featured smilax. proceeds go to furnishing the league house at Sterling campground.
Miss Louisa Mitchell of Bridgewater aged 85 died at the home of Mr and Mrs Geo H Knowlton in Chelmsford Wednesday at 1 o clock. A native of Bridgewater she belonged to a noted local family and taught in the Boston Dorchester district primary school for 25 years. Her sweet disposition and love for children marked her tenure.

The funeral was held this morning from her North Chelmsford home and at St. John's Church with Rev Fr Shaw officiating. Burial followed at St Joseph's Cemetery East Chelmsford under Undertaker O'Donnell. Annie T Tighe died in Dorchester January 23 and was buried at Catholic Cemetery after services at the northern station, under P H Savage.
An adjourned meeting of the club will be held Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The committee appointed at the last meeting will report the result of their investigations in reward to the possibility of acquiring larger quarters. It is hoped that every member of the club will be present, as it is very important that all should understand what is proposed. The plans presented by Mr Pollard for a hall adjoining the club quarters can be examined by the club members for an hour before the meeting.
