Hiram F. Gerrish, 59, former deputy state treasurer, died in Concord prison from pneumonia after a week of illness. He had been sentenced last October to two years for embezzlement involving nearly $5000. Gerrish leaves a widow and an adopted daughter.
Walter Watts aged 17 and Mary Sinclair aged 18 were drowned in the Hudson River at Newburg New York while skating on open water last night.

Capt Horatio D Moulton of Fitchburg resigns his commission as captain of Company B Sixth regiment MVM to avoid complicating reorganization plans. He joined as private Feb 16 1885 and rose to corporal, then first sergeant over the next years.
John Tarbox, 87, longtime Pelham milkman helper for 70 years, was fatally injured at the Pelham farm yard when a new two horse team frightened, causing him to fall beneath the horses. He suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries, with Dr Meigs attending, and died at 7 pm after a day of decline.
Frank Carey of the Far Ragut house was arraigned after hospital confinement for illegally selling liquor on Sundays. He pleaded guilty and paid a $50 fine, the same as two clerks from the Washington tavern and Merrimack house who had previously been fined. Leslie Bedell, arrested for cruelty to a horse, was continued until Jan 28. Only two drunks were recorded, fined $1 and $5.
Police court officer Henry Farrington collapsed at his Coral street home last evening after returning from the police station. Inspector Goodwin accompanied him part way home as he reported a severe pain and inability to walk. Dr. Thomas attended and noted left-sided paralysis. Farrington’s condition remained unchanged this morning.
John Welch of Fayette street employed at White Bros. & Co.'s tannery suffered a severe injury this morning when his thumb was pulled from his hand by a machine. Cords and tendons were damaged. An ambulance arrived promptly but he was taken to St John’s hospital by a company carriage before it arrived.
A man about 55 was knocked down by a horse owned by Patrick Lynch at Dutton and Market streets around 5.30 last night. He was unconscious with a deep cut on the back of his head, blood flowing. He was carried to Plunkett's drug store, revived after stimulants, and walked away unaided. He declined to give his name.
