Miss Jennie Parsons died at House of Mercy hospital from blood poisoning after a criminal operation performed on January 9. Dr E Proctor Peirce of 397 Main Street was arrested around 11 last night on the charge. City Marshal Stebbin said the case came to police attention via a hospital physician and an ante mortem statement from Parsons. Parsons, a Maine girl about 28, formerly worked in a Main Street department store. the man behind the condition does not reside in Springfield. Peirce expressed surprise at his arrest and asked for details of when and where the operation occurred.
Inspector Frank C Wasley of the state police met with Mayor Leonard and Treasurer Bailey at city hall. He advised weekly payments are legally required, but the city lacks funds and authority to borrow. The inspector left for Boston after a half hour, reporting no orders were issued and no bills can be paid until government organizes and grants borrowing power.

Mr William Bakewell of 158 Barker Avenue was surprised on his twentieth birthday Saturday evening January 19 by about thirty friends. Sara Bakewell and Hattie A Deane sang and played piano. Adam Shaw presented a cameo ring. Games and refreshments followed, with wishes for many more happy birthdays.
The bodies of Louis Nelson private Co G 12th U S Infantry who died in the Philippines in August and Frederick Sullivan arrived for burial. Nelson's mother Mary Nelson of 11 Mill Street identified the casket which could not be opened. Burial is set for 2 PM tomorrow from the undertaker with bearers from Co M Ninth Regiment and firing squad from Co C Sixth.
Burglars broke into Thomas F. McSorley's provision store at 348 Bridge Street last night, stealing $16 from a drawer after breaking a rear glass pane. A nearby patrol officer found breakage and notified the proprietor, who initially reported nothing missing but later confirmed the theft.
