Charleston West Virginia January 20 The senatorial contest turned partisan with N B Scott commissioner of internal revenue winning the Republican caucus nomination and J T McGraw chosen for the Democrats. Other candidates were dropped. The Republicans hold a legislative majority and the fight remains as bitter as two weeks ago.
St Louis January 20. Al J Wagenman clerk of the court of criminal correction who had vanished has confessed to subverting thirty thousand dollars via fictitious jurors and witness fees. His friends say the peculations stem from systematic blackmailing by holders of disagreeable secrets.
Washington January 20 The first assistant postmaster general issued an order increasing the salaries of all regular free delivery carriers who provide their own horses by 100 dollars a year.
The Spanish auxiliary cruiser Giraldo brought the reputed ashes of Columbus from Havana aboard the Conde De Venadito to Seville. Municipal authorities took charge of the coffin, a salute was fired, and a procession formed to the cathedral. The coffin lay in state before interment in the cathedral vault as troops and crowds lined the route.
The Michigan Telephone company board elected new managers for the Erie Telephone property. Ashley Pound resigns as director. Charles J. Glidden is elected to fill the vacancy. New officers include Glidden as president and McKinstry as vice president with a Detroit based leadership and advisory committee from Erie company directors in New England and New York.

John S. Flynn, arrested by police inspectors while trying to dispose of a buffalo robe stolen from a Dover man, was transported to Dover on the 12.05 train today by Officer Stevens of the Dover police.

Clark, including a 2 pm sermon on The Christian's Armor. William P. Foye, hay and grain dealer, petitions insolvency with liabilities of 32895 and assets 20985. Edward M. Perkins, 45, a Drummond Tobacco salesman from St. Louis, slashed his throat during a delirium tremens episode at his Centralville home. Officers Sparks and Libby arrived, forced entry, and saved him. He was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, expected to recover after surgery, despite a severe blood loss and ongoing delirium. Perkins had returned from Manchester, New Hampshire a week earlier and had relapsed into heavy drinking.
