Harry and George McPeek, two boys arrested in St Louis, confess to attempting to wreck a Wabash train on a bridge. They say they wanted to see what the train would do. A watchman spotted the obstruction on the track and prevented a wreck that would have sent the train 100 feet below.
In Athol Massachusetts on January 13 a fly wheel weighing 200 pounds burst in J S Hunt’s saw mill as the engine ran at full speed. A piece hit the boiler causing a fierce blast that hurled Hunt 20 feet but left him with only minor bruises. Another fragment cut a large roof hole and sliced timbers. the engine was wrecked though no workers were nearby.
A 11 pm fire at Taylor and Barker’s barn and store house in Lowell destroyed the structure and most contents. Two driving horses, four truck horses, five wagons, a carriage, furniture, harnesses and 12 tons of hay were lost, with total damage about 10000 dollars. The blaze, believed incendiary, consumed a 50 by 60 foot barn near the main road formerly known as the Dr. Astell place. Firemen arrived after a long run from box 47, saved few animals, and a St Bernard and pups perished. The property was insured.
The Boston and Maine railroad repairs Huntington Hall while the city revises plans for public space. Supt Bray says roof work will not force the city to follow old Huntington and Jackson hall layouts. The lands and buildings committee seeks better public accommodations in the railroad area. A humorous sales note touts Pearson's Twentieth Century Store with dry new shoes and low tide prices. It claims the shoes are not smoked or warped, advertising the price-be-littling sale as the best footwear ever worn.
Des Moines Iowa railway mail chief clerk Wm EB Penn testifies to Chamberlin's Critic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy relieving indigestion and stomach pains. He notes one or two doses provide perfect relief. price 25 and 60 cents, sold by Ellingwood & Co.
Spinners meet at Burkes hall to vote on a strike with about 300 present and 250 plus members signed up. Executive committees plan Sunday sessions in Spinners hall with women’s group and discuss millwide organization to protect operatives across departments and nationalities.

Authorities in other cities will defer demands until this case is resolved.

Compared with 67 and 75 cent shirts, a small lot of men's shirts unslaundered linen bosoms to close for 29 cents, boys at 25 cents each.
Superintendent Davis received a brown paper wrapped tin cylinder marked Do not open this will kill when opened. At Middlesex and South streets a man named Baker, under arrest, claimed he tried to make a bomb with powder matches and explosive materials. Officials expect Prof Irish to inspect the device and Baker faces full legal penalties if explosives are found.

In Hadley Police Court six drunks were fined. Florence ONeil and John Lillie received fines, Grace Tenley was fined for larceny with probation. Michael Dwyer stood trial for alleged election law violations when noon recess was taken.

Abner S Adams and Asa C Russell with Charles J Glidden and their spouses join the Raymond Whitcomb excursion from Boston February 20. Friends report A B Watson of East Auburn Maine, father of Mrs G Winfield Knowlton of 95 Harvard Street, is slowly recovering from a serious illness. Mrs Knowlton has stayed at his bedside for three weeks and hopes to return soon.
