In Friendship Maine Miss Mari etta Simmons a public school teacher and Miss Nettie Murphy and Miss Fannie Murphy fall ill with malignant diphtheria after visiting Miss Flora Webber in Round Pond where she died from the disease. Health officials acted quickly to contain exposure, two additional cases appeared, then the trio at risk became seriously ill.
John Kaser, 34, a Boston printer living in Boston, cut his throat with a razor in a friend's house in New York City this morning. Out of work and despondent, he acted alone.
New York January 11. Wm L Trenholm comptroller of the currency during Cleveland's first term died this morning of pneumonia after contracting the grip.
