At Nauset beach Chatham a large three masted schooner in distress battled a blizzard off Cape Cod. Life savers launched a surf boat amid heavy seas. after several waves, the crew were rescued one by one. Capt. Bearse telephoned for extra surfmen as a woman and child were reportedly aboard.

The blaze fed on excelsior and boxes in the cellar but was brought under control with minimal damage. Property is owned by P. Dempsey.
At 8 30 this morning an alarm from box 25 sent the department to 51 Tyler street where a bed in an attic chamber of a two and a half story house burned. The building owned by Mrs Laura Pendergast is occupied by Daniel F Hartley as a boarding house. The bed occupied by two children was destroyed but the fire was checked before serious injury to the house. Cause is a mystery likely careless matches. Nicholas G Norcross holds the household furniture insurance.
At the annual meeting Sewall G. Mack and George J. Carney were elected managers and J. W. B. Shaw secretary and treasurer, in a morning session.
John Bouchard, blinded by vitriol, testified in a Lowell police court hearing against Elizabeth de L'Etoile. His wife Margaret Bouchard described threats to ruin his marriage. de L'Etoile wept, and Bouchard was held under $1000 bond for the grand jury.
The board of overseers for the poor sees multiple candidates for the city farm superintendent and more overseers than slots. Democrats may reelect Courtney, a Democrat, while Col. Albert Pinder, a Republican, could hold over. A Monday vote is anticipated with cross-party treatment noted.
Frank the gray horse of the Branch street hose wagon collapsed and died after returning to the firehouse from box 35. The beloved employee had served 11 years and was returning with his running mate to assist the engine when he reeled and fell. The extra exertion may have contributed to his death.
