Marlboro January 3 a new chapter in the general strike began as the S. H. Howe Co factory and three smaller plants of the same firm resumed operations after a two month shutdown. There were no disturbances and workers returned to plants in Marlboro.
Matthews led early while Zeigler controlled the mid rounds and Marty countered well against the wind. In the 17th Matthews landed a left hook that dropped Zeigler, who showed strength in the final round. referee Sam C. Austin declared a draw, a popular outcome with the crowd.
Lawrence on January 2 witnessed the oath for Mayor James H. Eaton for a second term. The board of aldermen is four Democrats and two Republicans. the common council ten Democrats and eight Republicans. A deadlock stalled electing four city officers including assessor and treasurer. Judge Andrew C. Stone administered the oath. Rev. W. C. Wolcott gave the prayer. Cornelius F. Lynch chaired the aldermen. Daniel H. Logue led the council. Mayor Eaton is a Republican.
North Middlesex Ministers association gathered at the Free church with Rev. George C. Wright. Rev. Enoch Powell of Nashua preached the sermon and Rev. John M. Greene presented a paper on Shakespeare for Ministers. Discussion followed with President Tucker's book review on The Making and Unmaking of the Preacher.
Police inspectors arrested Orlo Van Volkenberg at his home in Ayer City this morning on a charge of larceny of a woman's gold watch. The theft occurred on Merrimack Street during the holidays and the watch was later found in a local jewelry store where it had been left for repair. Van Volkenberg, 21, gave his age at the police station.
The mothers meeting will be held Wednesday January 4 at 3 o clock in the YMCA rooms on Hurd Street. Miss Anna W Devereaux superintendent of the kindergarten department at the normal school will speak on the importance of early impressions. All women are welcome and a large turnout is hoped for.
In Chatham on January 3 Monomoy life savers recovered the bones of a human leg and a man's short reefer jacket from the sea. Officials believe they are remains of victims from the Portland disaster. The lifeboat crew awaited the medical examiner to aid in identification.
Alphonse Pure, badly hurt after a fall in the Central block, has partially regained consciousness. He spoke rationally for a few minutes this morning before wandering again. Attendants at St. John's hospital say his condition is improving.

Cleveland J Cheney, city streets superintendent, rode Kalkee which ran away at 11 15 this morning and covered five miles before capture. The horse terrified pedestrians, knocked a sleigh, diverted onto sidewalks, and narrowly avoided further collisions across Merrimack and Dutton streets.
Supt Cheney pursued a runaway horse and sleigh through Merrimack and Pawtucket streets toward Middlesex Village, catching it beyond the railroad crossing. A second horse also fled from Middlesex and Dutton streets in Thorndike street, looping Western avenue and the railroad bridge before being caught with little damage to the sleigh.

Whitely dies at 101 Suffolk Street aged 35 with five children and relatives.

Albert Ayer died at his home on Friday afternoon from heart failure after a day of town duties as town clerk. He was born in Charlestown in 1825 and served Winchester as town clerk for eight years, chaired the board of assessors since 1861, and held roles as water registrar and selectman for many years. He leaves a wife Caroline, a son A Eugene, and a daughter Mrs. Geo Weld. Three children preceded him in death.
South Framingham rector Rev Arthur L Bumpus will join Rev Edward L Atkinson as co worker of the Church of the Ascension Boston starting February 1 He is son of Judge Everett C Bumpus born in Quincy about 28 He graduated Harvard 1891 and Cambridge theological school 1894 He led two parishes to prosperity with extensive institutional work and church clubs including gymnastics sewing and temperance groups
