Sneak thieves Shapiro and Yagoda given jail terms
Joseph Shapiro and Salon Yagoda were sentenced in police court this morning for sneak thief acts. Shapiro drew one year at the house of correction and Yagoda ten months. Gen. J. H. Whitney produced two Italian witnesses linking the pair to thefts at 219 Hanover Street. Additional proceedings included fines for unrelated offenses and a range of minor punishments for drunks and vagrants.

The Lowell library gift from Wentworth includes the will dated June 4, 1875. Stowaway Langelle Survives Five Day Hold Ordeal Aboard Cedric
New York reports William Langelle endured nearly five days with almost no food or drink after stowing away July 30 on the Cedric from Liverpool. He secretly hid in the mid ship hold, pried free a hatch with a jackknife, and survived by four onions and a small rum flask until discovered seven days out. Body of Vesper Country club steward recovered after drowning
The body of William H. MacDonald, late steward of Vesper Country Club, was found at 6 20 this morning near Tyngs Island where he disappeared last Thursday while swimming. Efforts to save him failed against a swift rocky river bed and remains were brought to surface after dynamite discharges. Mrs MacDonald will likely move the body to Boston for burial with relatives.
