The liquor squad visited John J. Reagan's pool room at 525 Merrimack street this morning and found two gallons of whiskey in three jugs. The liquor was seized.
The American Biograph moving pictures were tested last night at the Lake View Theatre and won instant audience approval. The San Juan Hill battle scene created a furore and the films will be shown every afternoon and evening in addition to the opera.
Washington reports Gen Otis confirms McArthur with 4000 troops attacked a 6000 strong insurgent force around San Fernando at 515 this morning. By 10 the lines had advanced five miles toward Angeles with few casualties. The attack had been ordered for the 7th but rain delayed it. Floods have washed the Angeles north railway beyond repair.
The chamber of commerce will meet tonight to organize a law and order league to oppose the boycott. Gen Axline yesterday sent two more companies of soldiers back to their homes.
Prominent in Georgia politics and education, former Gov. William Yates Atkinson of Newnan died today after doctors lost hope for recovery. Born November 11, 1854 in Oakland he rose from modest farm beginnings to UGA graduate in 1877, lawyer, Coweta county solicitor, state legislator, and governor in 1894. He married Susie Milton in 1880 and had four children.
Gen Francisco Liniano sent from Monte Christi to attack Gen Ramon Pacheco at Dajabon. His troops deserted upon arrival, entering Pacheco's camp without a shot fired. Pacheco's advanced posts sit at Las Agas while revolutionists control fords of the Yaque River cutting Monte Christi from the interior. Jiminez's forces grow daily with favorable reports across the republic.
New York August 8 The New York sub-treasury distributed 2 160 000 dollars in gold certificates from Washington yesterday. A posted notice at the sub-treasury states that one dollar bills cannot be spared at present.
Scientists from the Carnegie Museum at Pittsburg report a sixty foot long fossil dinosaur found in local quarries near Laramie Wyoming. The creature stood twenty feet at the hips with a six foot thigh bone and a frog like head. Fore legs are short versus the hind limbs, and the monster is preserved in remarkable condition.
J H Melrose, manager of Standard Art Manufacturing Co, surrendered to government authorities in New York after two weeks of pursuit by Post Office Inspector King. He was arraigned before U S Commissioner Shields and posted cash bail of 1000 dollars.
