At 9 23 the department answered box 45 and found a blaze in a Branch street area house owned by H P Hasey and occupied by J N Holden. Rats and matches suspected as the cause. fire contained to a cupboard with minimal damage insured. A second alarm from box 51 reported a cellar fire at Conway's drug store Gorham and Madison streets burning old paper. Owner John Gildee held the building, loss limited.
The Police court at Hadley dealt with seventeen intoxicated defendants today, thirteen men and four women. The women, described as veteran drinkers, received harsher penalties with two sent to Shedburne for a year, one jailed six months, and another fined five dollars.
Four committees of Cercle Garin the literary society of lAssociation Catholique met last night and decided to hold an entertainment May 16 to close the season. The Hibernian Bazaar’s associate hall was crowded for its third session last night. Dancing started at 9:30 and ran until 3:00, with the Manhattan Orchestra providing the music.

A young woman Mary Dunlavy escaped a nighttime attack in Pawtucketville after a man followed her from a street end and tried to gag her. Neighbors rushed to help as she screamed, with her father Officer Dunlavy recovering at home and the assailant fleeing into the dark. She bore bruising to one arm and identified the suspect as a about 25 year old man with a black derby hat and light overcoat.

Hale dies at 47 at his mother Maria Hale's home 815 Middlesex Street. once a card and glazed paper maker in Whippany and Nashua. Nathan S. Sleeper dies April 28 at 81 in Pelham. survived by son Edwin N. Sleeper and three daughters. born in Bristol NH, moved to Lowell then Pelham in 1860.
Alice M. Kenney aged 49 years o1 months died yesterday at her home on Amory Street. The record notes her employment at Hamilton Corporation and appears in a local obituary notice from the period.
The funeral of Elizabeth Farnham was held yesterday with prayers by Rev. A. E. Wilkson at Undertaker Young’s rooms at 11 and service at the South church in Andover at 2. Burial followed in Andover. William L Hale died April 28 and services were held today at his mother's home 851 Middleset Street with Rev. James Mudge officiating, after which the body was sent to Nashua for burial by Undertaker Currier.
Mr. Charles F. Urann and Mrs. Irent L. Whipple were married at noon Wednesday at 408 Lincoln street. Rev Alexander Blackburn of Cambridge presided with relatives present. Alderman F. A. Tuttle served as best man and Miss Marguerite Foregreaves as bridesmaid. The D. L. Page company catered and the couple departed for a wedding trip north.
Mr Thomas H Sanders has returned from a week's vacation with friends in Boston. Rev Smith Thomasford spoke at a missionary conference in the Second Baptist church in Lawrence yesterday. Little Miss Eva Henderson held a fourth birthday party at her home on Fletcher street Tuesday afternoon and evening. Charles R Daoust of L Etoile received a telegram from Montreal announcing his mother's serious illness there and will leave for Montreal Saturday. Miss Amy Baker, known in Lowell, gave an annual recital at Sherrys in New York Tuesday evening assisted by a soprano and a baritone from the Opera Comique.
