Boston April 28 The report of the Committee on the Militia investigation enters the Senate with 12 pages of amendments to the militia law. In South Brooklyn early today a tenement fire killed four people. Mrs. Celia Barnet and her two children aged three and five died after being overwhelmed by smoke. Mrs. John Newell, 38, perished from burns. Barnet reportedly threw the children to safety before suffocating.
Colonel Jesse E Peyton known as the Father of Centennials has died aged in Haddonsfield New Jersey. He planned major national celebrations including Philadelphia 1876 Bunker Hill Yorktown Constitutional and New York commemorations and his last project envisioned a 1900 Jerusalem birth of Christ celebration by Christian nations.
Chicago April 28 The railroads have agreed to a one way rate of 25 dollars from Chicago to San Francisco for the Christian Endeavor convention and the same rate for the return trip. This ends a long controversy.
The Legislature's military committee will report a bill today to remove Brig. Generals Bridges and Peach from office after the next encampment in August. The bill limits terms to seven years and prohibits re election, with successors chosen to fill vacant posts. Wm. H. Bent promotes the reforms, arguing retirement opens promotion for capable officers and that Gen Peach has served 15 years.

In this city on April 26, Mrs Eliza A Farnham aged 54 years 11 months died. Alma Travers child of William and Annie Travers aged 3 years 6 months died at 3 Boston road on April 26.
