Nearly 60 weavers in the Merrimack mills left work as loomfixers walked out over a strike. One loomfixer was discharged after it emerged he joined the strikers at Merrimack and also held loomfixing at Boott. Tools were packed away in a shed near the print works and a union meeting is planned for tonight at the loomfixers hall.
The city treasurer reports eight license applications totaling 14600 dollars for one hotel and seven common victuallers. The board of health notes seven new diphtheria cases since Saturday noon.
The Sisters of Notre Dame warn against giving money to a woman moving between houses of the order soliciting funds to reach Galveston Texas. She claims to be an old pupil of the Sisters and closely known to superiors in convents. The woman is a fraud, yet some people have already aided her.
Lawrence April 28 Weavers return to work at Washington mills with strike leaders saying the situation is not affected. Agent Ingram reports another gain this morning and a hopeful outlook with management satisfied.
About 300 representatives of the Independent Order of Foresters arrive in Los Angeles for the supreme court session set to convene next Tuesday. Delegation leaders include Dr Oronhyatekha, J A McGillivray, H A Collins, and Thomas Milleman. Canada, Britain, Ireland, Australia and New South Wales send senior delegates and clerical officers. The Hig Court of California accompanies guests to the city for the event.

New York April 28 Arch bishop Corrigan passed a comfortable night and showed encouraging signs. Doctors said all physical symptoms were favorable with only weakness and slow convalescence remaining. Brothers Dr Joseph Corrigan and Rev Father George Corrigan arrived, with a 930 bulletin noting nearly out of danger and a 2 PM consultation planned by Drs Keyes and Delafield.
Ernest Wilde a British subject is in a guardhouse awaiting transfer to Alcatraz to serve a 99 year treason sentence. He deserted U S Army in Luzon Philippines and later claimed capture by insurgents before surrendering at Tarlac. A general court martial found him guilty of desertion and joining Filipino insurgents.
In Medford a dispute over Pastor Isaac Pierson splits Union Congregational Church as 35 King’s Daughters members urge his removal or face withdrawal from the society. The women accuse Pierson of denouncing the group and seek church action next Friday. Pierson, a six year pastor and former China missionary, preached as usual amid the turmoil.
In New York on April 28 flames threaten to destroy the historic receiving ship Vermont moored at Cob dock in the navy yard. Auction buyer E. L. Lunt plans to tow the vessel to Eastport, Maine beached and partly broken up before burning for scrap metal. Built in Boston, keel laid 1818, launched 1848, the Vermont spent most of its career at the Brooklyn navy yard.
In superior court this morning the jury found for the defendant in John F. Lori gan pro ami versus Martina B. Gage administratrix. It marks the second trial after a hung jury in the fall term. The court schedules the town of Tewksbury damages case for next week and Ormsby versus Welch, a contract suit between out of town parties, resumes.

Cincinnati residents follow the Margaret Taylor kidnapping case as it widens to involve prominent families in Cincinnati and Columbus. Frances Taylor and her mother faced prison for aiding the abduction and withholding whereabouts while Margaret remains missing. Public fundraisers and media attention press for her return and punishment of the kidnappers. Governor Nash may aid in locating the child as women's clubs condemn reprieves.

A Delaware Lackawanna and Western wreck near Dover New Jersey today was caused by an engine boiler explosion. Engineer George Trimmer of Washington New Jersey and Fireman Joseph Maybury of Port Murray New Jersey died. No passengers were harmed.
Delta Colorado April 28 report states the first spike in the Rio Grande railroad up the Gun nison north fork will be driven today. Ten miles have been graded and the line will extend over 30 miles to Paonia, opening fertile coal country with the state's largest anthracite deposit found to date.
In a sunny police court session Judge Hadley dealt with a crowd of drinkers. Patrick J Curtin pleaded not guilty after a Saturday arrest for intoxication, claiming life proof from New Hampshire. Several others faced fines or jail, including Eliza Egan and Peter McQuade, with sentences ranging from fines to months in jail or probation, amid a string of drunken incidents and accusations.
The Princess Radziwill faces 24 counts of forgery in the supreme court of Cape Town. The trial before Chief Justice De Villiers began with a not guilty plea. An application to adjourn for overseas evidence was refused. Rhodes and Schultz are posthumous witnesses via affidavits supporting the forged-note claim.
Fire swept the Summit hotel and the Leiisburg Furniture Co. block at 221 223 West Walnut street in Des Moines Iowa at 7 o clock this morning. Several firemen were injured as flames engulfed the entire structure. Injuries and exact causes were not immediately known. Local crews fought the blaze for hours with aid from nearby stations.

New York April 28 Broadway Tabernacle at Broadway and 4th street, home of the citys parent Congregational church for 43 years, has been closed. Farewell services drew many. A syndicate has bought the property for 1,000,000 and will take possession May 1 and tear down the church for a skyscraper.
Shortly after noon today Anthony A. Conway private secretary to the Mayor announced that Mayor Dimon is in a serious condition and his friends fear he is sinking rapidly. No other information regarding his illness could be provided.
