Washington dispatch reports Hale's brigade of MacArthur's division moved along the Quingua river, joined by Wheaton's brigade, driving the enemy from intrenchments in a flank move and taking Calumpit amid extreme heat and difficult roads. Six killed and 12 wounded. Lawton to reach Norragray tonight to join the center column from Bocave. The enemy south of Manila, about 4000 strong, demonstrates daily.

An explosion at Fleers's Chewing Gum factory in Philadelphia at 9 this morning injured and killed workers. The building and surrounding blocks suffered extensive damage. twelve injured taken to hospital.

In Camden on April 25 Edward Edward killed his wife and eight year old daughter by stabbing them. He then cut his own throat after a desperate struggle with officers. One child escaped unharmed.
London April 24 Signor Marconi the electrician has successfully transmitted a wireless message from South Foreland Kent to the French armed despatch vessel Ibis while in the English Channel. A French naval officer accompanied the experiment, which also marks the first success in concentrating messages at one point to the exclusion of all others.
A man calling himself Ole Bracke from Germany Iowa was arrested outside Helen Gould's New York home after pursuing her with letters calls and visits. He is committed to Bellevue for sanity examination.

A man leaped from Central Bridge around 1 pm and likely died by his own action. A:B Hoolihan name was found on the railing in pencil. Eyewitnesses Fred Maxwell and Herbert Grover described a dark, sunburned man about 5’11” tall, 160-170 pounds, in a dark suit and hat. The body was not recovered after surfacing and sinking in the swollen river. Police were alerted. rescue attempts were blocked by swift current.
In the Superior Court this morning the balloon case of Manning v. the J C Ayer Company and the Middlesex North Agricultural Society was resumed, the plaintiff calling several witnesses including three physicians who treated the plaintiff’s injuries. This afternoon the defense began its case.
In North Chelmsford Lieut. William J. Quigley of Troop F failed the recent examining board after 17 years of service in the M V M. The matter is being reviewed by the commander in chief. Meanwhile work progresses on the new State road at North Chelmsford with the arrival of a large steam roller.
Seth W. Walker, his son and daughter, of Butte Montana, visiting his old Westford home after a 15 year absence. Walker was formerly employed at the Courier establishment.

A large Sunday school gathering at First Congregational church in Lowell featured an organ recital by Solon W. Stevens and a supper for 192 hosted by Miss Jane E. Warfield’s class. Rev. F. A. Warfield opened proceedings with remarks, and Rev. S. T. Ford presided. Speakers included Dr. C. H. Spaulding of the American Baptist Publication Society, Mrs. E. A. Stevens, Mrs. A. B. Wilson, Miss Brown, Rev. J. A. Bowler, and Alderman George H. Taylor. Stevens delivered a entertaining, pointed talk on Bible literature and the role of Sunday schools in shaping youth and public life.
In a brief session Mr. Stevens objected to being discounted by a clam while Mr. Ford offered a few closing remarks. Dr. Warfield spoke on fellowship in the work before adjourning the meeting to June 7 with the place to be announced later.
In a police court session Judge Hadley arraigned Fred D. Batchelder of Adams house North Chelmsford after a raid by Con stable Wotton. Batchelder pleaded guilty to illegally keeping liquor and paid a $75 fine. Other cases included Patrick Dolan fined $15 for assault at 39 Concord street. Edwin W. Richards bound to keep the peace on $10. Mary E. Forbes pleaded guilty to drunkenness amid embezzlement charges. Thomas Donnelly, caught with $1 theft from Porto Rican youth Cassimar Rivas, fined $15 for larceny and $5 for drunkenness. several others were released or fined small amounts.
Joseph Farcock a Pole of 86 William Street lost an arm at 6.40 this morning while working a picker machine in Prescot Mill. He was taken by ambulance to the Corporation Hospital where the arm was amputated near the shoulder.
In the superior court the Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill road paid 1500 to Charles Stanley for injuries from August 1, 1898. Payment was made by check to F. C. Wright, attorney for the plaintiff.
Victor Storm marked his sixteenth birthday at his parents J A Storm and Mrs. Storms home 8 Hazeltine Street on Saturday evening April 22. A large group of young people attended enjoyed games and entertainment then adjourned to the dining room where refreshments were served with Mrs. Storm, Mrs. Greenleaf, and Mrs. Carter aiding.

Miss Ellen Kennedy sister of ex Councilman James J Kennedy married Monday afternoon to Mr James P Leary. Rev William O Brien officiated at St Michael s parochial residence with Miss Margaret Hubin and Mr William H Kennedy as bridesmaid and best man. Reception followed at 87 Boynton Street, home of the bride’s brother Thomas H Kennedy.
Mr George Ennion and Miss Minnie Condon both of North Billerica were married Monday evening at the Sacred Heart church parish residence in Lowell by Rev C A Paquette O M I. Best man was Mr Thomas McGinnis and bridemaid Miss Mary Sullivan. A reception followed at the bridemaid’s Hudson street home.
The remains of Annie T. Cole who died in Ayer were received at the Northern depot and buried in Edson cemetery. Bridget McKinnon’s funeral was held at 3 PM from her home at 10 Dane Street Avenue with bearers James Riley James Mc Manus John Flood Patrick Maguire Jeremiah Riordan and Patrick Riley. Fr McHugh officiated at the grave.
