Dracut town officials inspected roads yesterday afternoon and identified problems on the Lakeview route. The selectmen authorized the road surveyor to spend 200 dollars to repair the road and noted further needs for improvements on other town roads. In a separate sale notice, 31 Royal Street, a furnished eight room house with bath and cellar on 3000 square feet of land, fronting 46 feet, will be sold at absolute auction on Thursday April twentieth at 2:40 PM by J. E. Conant & Co. for Geo. R. Richardson executor of Laura H. Wilson's will.
The Boston Museum, oldest playhouse in the city, suffered an about $80,000 fire at 56 this morning. Several firms on the street floor incurred $8,000 in losses. Most damage fell on the museum portion, including theatre, statuary, paintings, and birds. The incident is blamed on a careless smoker. no further details provided.
New York police Capt Mc Cluskey announces a key clue against Roland B Molineux in the Adams murder case. He presents a blue paper letter with three crescents from a Barnet/Cornish pattern, signed in the suspect’s hand, sent to a patent medicine firm requesting medicine. Molineux had testified he never wrote to a patent medicine dealer.
London April 13. Sloan captured four races at Newmarket today riding St Ia,Vace Victus, Swirl and Sea Fog. He won the biennial stakes on St Ia, the double trial plate on Vace Victus, the selling plate on Swirl, and the second welter handicap on Sea Fog. Betting ranged from 11 to 8 to 3 to 1 against his mounts.
At 4 this morning insurgents struck the Third artillery camp from a swamp west of Malolos. Two privates were killed while a lieutenant and two others were wounded. At daylight Americans hunted the rebels, driving them northward and killing several.
Spanish gunboats purchased by Francisco Reyes at Zamboanga started for Manila but returned stripped of guns and ammunition. Report says the vessel was boarded by rebels and the commander disobeyed orders in sailing, making the affair appear suspicious.
This morning Bar on Von Buelow announced Great Britain had at last agreed and the commission will proceed to Samoa without delay.
Gov Powers has issued a warrant for a special election on June 19 in Augusta to elect a congressman in the second district to succeed Dingley.
The Grand Commandery of the United Order of the Golden Cross met in Boston at Odd Fellows hall with 700 past noble commanders present and all 127 Massachusetts commanderies represented. Grand Commander Charles Steere presided as reports showed a prosperous year with 1166 new members and total state membership at 10,296. five new commanderies were instituted, bringing the administration total to 25.
Played in Lawrence, the textile school baseball team opened the season with a 17 to 9 victory over Lawrence high. Five innings were played, and Lowell pulled away in the final inning scoring nine runs while Lawrence could muster three. Buchan and Foster starred for Lowell with Foster hitting safely in every at bat. Wing contributed strong at first base, Burnham led Lawrence with two doubles in three trips.
The day nursery benefit titled Musicale and Pink Tea will be held Friday evening April 14 at 276 Pine Street, hosted by Mrs A A Robinson. The apron committee chaired by Mrs Guy Holbrook organizes the event with D L Page company catering. Italian orchestra music and soprano Mr R Wirt highlight the program, aiming to raise a handsome fund for the institution.
A Fleischmann & Co. yeast horse was so badly hurt in a runaway that it had to be shot after colliding with Joseph Mercier’s team at Branch and Middlesex streets. Mercier’s horse escaped uninjured. Also advertised: five Royal Street houses for absolute auction on Thursday afternoon April twentieth by J. E. Conant & Co. for executor Geo. R. Richardson.
The Volunteer Aid association discussed caring for sick soldiers at a Boston meeting. The Lowell branch received praise for its systematic work and low costs, reportedly not losing any entrusted to its care. Meetings continue with plans for the next session on the first Wednesday in May.
William Lawrenceson, about 32, was arrested yesterday on Central Street by Inspectors Allen and Laflamme for the alleged breaking and entering of P. J. Riley's junk store on Summer Street. A hand bag valued at $5 or $6 was the stolen item, later identified by a pawn broker who bought it from him. Lawrenceson admits selling the bag but denies stealing it, blaming another man. He faces arraignment this morning and the case appears strong.
A transient man with a long crime history has been repeatedly arrested in Lowell and Lawrence since 1890. He first faced a 10 month larceny sentence in Lowell, then a 1890 Boston breaking and entering charge with unknown sentence. He later served three years at the Lowell house of correction for drunkenness, and has spent additional time in custody after various detachments in Lowell and Lawrence.
Thomas Reay Gregg Reay and George Hurley are jailed in Lowell awaiting trial for larceny from the person. Michael Sullivan, their alleged victim, says the trio attacked him after drinking at a Worthen Market area saloon, took 65 cents, and kicked him as they fled. Officer Boyle, a key witness, saw the group after the act but not the crime. Bonds set at 300 dollars each. trial slated for Saturday.
During the past three months the group held three business meetings, two for mothers, two devotional gatherings, and a memorial service for Frances E. Willard. State president Mrs. H. L. Stevenson spoke, delivering one of the best tempered addresses.
A meeting of the Young Women's Hospital Guild was held yesterday afternoon at Mrs. J. W. Meigs home. Reports from February and March visits were presented by Miss Ludlam and Mrs. Edwin Shaw. Miss May Brazer reported on the work committee noting two thirds completed with rest distributed for completion. Norcross praised ward work by the young women. It was voted to buy the surgical dressing truck requested by Dr. Gage. Irene Pinder sang, tea and chocolate were served, next meeting set for the second Wednesday in May.
Essex county superior court tried the case Broadbent versus Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway company seeking damages for injuries at the Breezy Point accident between Lawrence and Lowell last summer. Verdict awarded $200 to the plaintiff. De Courcy and Coulson appeared for the plaintiff while Sweeney and Dow for the defendant.
In the case of Mersick receiver versus Prince a sealed verdict awarded the plaintiff $55 damages. Holt versus Holmes proceeded with trial for the conversion of property, continuing through the morning.
The Priscilla and Puritan replace the Plymouth and Pilgrim on the Fall River line. Service on the route is at a peak, with music remaining a feature on the boats year round. Sunday trips will resume beginning May 7.

Three druggists already applied. board advised caution until action is clearer.
In a police court session William R Lawrenceson pleaded not guilty to breaking into P J Riley’s junk shop on Summer street and stealing a valise worth nine dollars. the case was continued to April 20 with Lawrenceson held on five hundred dollars bail. Others faced larceny, drunkenness and assault charges with varied fines and continuances.

Variet y actor Lew Randall died at a New York hospital on April 4 from pneumonia. The Actors Fund aided his illness and handled burial arrangements. A frequent Lowell visitor, he last appeared with the High Rollers at Music Hall in November and with Harry Morris the prior season. His wife Daisy Randall is also a vaudeville performer. Randall was known as a clever blackface comedian and a good dancer.
Funeral services for Patrick Wardy were conducted at St Peter's Church at 9 am with Rev John A McKenna officiating. The choir performed Gregorian chant under James H Donnelly, solos at offertory and end, burial in Catholic cemetery, with undertaker Rogers and bearers Donohoe, Carolin, Murray, Bailey, Hackett, and Casey.

Helena C. Corcoran aged 1 month and 3 days died at her parents home Michael and Helena Corcoran 532 Suffolk Street on April 12. The brief notice records the infant's age and residence with no further details.
