Boston April 12 The prudential committee of the American board of commissioners for foreign missions voted to accept 100000 dollars from John D Rockefeller for mission work. The report argues trustees cannot legally return gifts and would set a dangerous ethical standard, defending the donor and the board against protests by Congregational clergy.
London report confirms that the Russian battleship squadron under Vice Adm A Rosestvensky passed Singapore on April 8 heading east. Grand Rapids, April 12. A fire in a saloon and boarding house leaves one dead and several injured. The dead is May Herrick, eight. The severely injured is her mother, Chas. N. Herrick, while two-year-old Chas. N Herrick is also hurt. Thomas Norris leaps from a second story window and breaks his arm rescuing Mrs Herrick and her son. Ada Norris Jack Ward and Charles Anderson suffer non fatal injuries.
Medford April 12 The Taft's College trustee committee newly appointed to select a president to succeed the late Elmer H Capen reports that due to Capen's recent death and upcoming commencement and semi centennial events in June it is inadvisable to act now The committee will postpone action and will not report any nomination until the October meeting Rev Frederick W Hamilton serves as acting president.
In Lyme New Hampshire on April 12 Mrs. John Colby a 65 year old widow was burned to death when a century old Wayside Inn building burned. The blaze started reportedly from an overturned lamp. The structure housed Arthur Heaton with Mrs Colby renting rooms in the ell. Owner Mrs E F Palmer faced losses under 3000 dollars with no insurance.
Kansas City on April 12 reports that President Roosevelt has been invited by the Commonwealth Club to make a brief stop in Kansas City on his return east.

Rome New York April 12 The Pell Gear Works four story building and an adjoining residence occupied by Mr and Mrs H K Pell were destroyed by fire. Loss 20000 with 13000 insured. Fire origin unknown. The Pell couple woke after a stray dog barked and escaped with difficulty. The Pell Gear Works has long operated here manufacturing spring gears.
Boston April 12 Gov Wm L Douglas nominated Charles H Cole Jr for police commissioner to succeed Charles P Curtis whose three year term ends May 1 Cole is a member of Gov Douglas staff and an officer of the first corps of cadets of the state militia The executive council will act on the nomination next week.
Daniel Sullivan suffered a crushing injury to his right foot at 6 45 in the Lowell Machine shop yard when his foot was caught between two yard cars. He was taken to Corporation hospital where the wound from the big toe to the ankle was dressed and he rests comfortably.
