Lovington Opens Government Approved Grain Storage Plant
Lovington introduces Lea County's first government approved grain storage with a 403000 bushel main capacity and 5000 bushel per hour elevator. Bernie Vincenti manages the Lovington Storage Company which features a 100 by 200 foot all steel building, six tanks, 6000 feet of scales, railroad siding, and bonded warehouse receipts. Joe Woodard stored grain there and received New Mexico's first government grain loan this year under the 1951 program, netting about 1.54 to 31.538 per hundredweight. Vincenti plans to relocate from Lubbock and work full time in Lovington.

Farm employees and their employers will join the federal old age and survivors insurance program. El Paso Social Security Manager Samuel C. Anthony says Congress extended coverage to about 650 000 farm hands while operators are still excluded. Employers must report cash wages and pay a 3 percent tax. half may be deducted, leaving 1.5 percent of payroll. Coverage begins January 1, 1951 with quarterly work thresholds and wage tests.

Purcell Matron Dies in Santa Fe at 82
Mrs. Patrick Purcell of Santa Fe New Mexico died early in September 1950 from heart failure. She was 82 and had lived in Santa Fe all her life. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Santa Fe and Dr. J M Purcell and his wife returned home the next day.
