Guns Stolen From Battles Farm Home
The Yarm home of Shelby Battles seven miles north of Hobbs on the Denver City Highway was burglarized Tuesday night. Two 30-30 rifles a Marlin and a Winchester were reported missing. Also 22 pump Winchester rifle and a Mosberg 20 gauge shotgun. The sheriff's department also reports theft of a cutting torch oxygen gauge and regulators acetylene gauge and regulator from the Black Silvas and Bryson location on the Pope Lease in the Denton Pool.

D A Maib couple from Kansas City become new owners of the Cactus Inn on the Artesia highway Lovington. They come with seven years in the safe business and a son Jack in the Navy. The cafe will open 5 AM to 9 PM under the name Big Cafe and feature open kitchen and fast service. Assistant District Attorney Joe Walton withholds the names of two Hobbs girls aged 12 and 14 who stole a car driving it to Snyder Texas and wrecking it. Walton cites the girls nice family background and insurance covering owner D B Phillips Sr loss. The car was parked. two girls lured a man inside while the other drove off. The wreck occurred near Snyder around 5 PM Tuesday and the car was returned. The girls headed toward Houston to visit a father in Hobbs. Walton found no reason to reveal the girls’ names to the press.

Two Go Free On Charges of Possessing Stolen Oil Field Equipment
Two youths charged in justice court with possession of stolen property saw the charges dismissed after being bound over to district court. Bonds were set at 1000 dollars but lack of evidence led Sheriff McAdoo to drop the case. The boys claimed they found oil field equipment belonging to a company that could not prove loss or theft, and the property was returned.
