Lea County Soil Conservation Tour Slated for September
The Lea County Soil Conservation District and Extension Service sponsor the third annual district tour on Friday September 10 beginning at 8:00 A M at the Lovington Court House for central and south section representatives and 9:00 A M at Maple Wilson's farm for northern delegates. Participants will view water saving irrigation devices and the first green manure crop, hear fertilizer trial results at L D Patman’s McDonald farm, tour E C Lackey’s poultry use and cotton tests, then end at Prairie View for a free lunch funded by Livingston banks. The tour observes Soil Conservation Month as proclaimed by the New Mexico governor.

Mrs. Pearl Marr, of Bledsoe Texas, gains mineral rights to her 200 acre Crossroads homestead after a decades long battle dating to 1929. Congress and President Eisenhower backed the restoration, allowing her to control oil and gas interests once the Interior Department issues the deed.

Farm Worker Dies in Lovington Car Trouble
Ca Calixto Cuellar a 47 year old cotton harvest worker died last Monday in an automobile accident while being taken to a physician. The car ran out of gas at the Lovington town limits and Cuellar, under a physician’s care for a heart condition, died before a police car could reach a doctor. His permanent home was Weslaco Texas.

Services Held For Eunice Bay Youth Carl Roberts
Funeral services were at the First Baptist Church of Eunice for Carl Jackie Roberts 18 who died in a SUV crash nine miles west of Eunice. James Barber 19 remained in fair condition with five broken ribs and a concussion from the same accident. Roberts was the son of L C Roberts and wife of the Columbian Carbon Company camp near Eunice and a former Eunice High School athlete who placed second in the state tennis singles last spring. He is survived by his parents two brothers Robbie Ray 14 and Donald Lee 13 and two grandparents Mrs Sallie Roberts and Z C Seeders.
