Final Rites Held Monday for Lea County Tax Assessor Roy Tatum
Roy Lee Tatum, Lea County Tax Assessor, age 40, was buried in Lovington cemetery after services at First Baptist Church. He died Saturday morning of a heart attack after working Friday and serving a second term without opposition. Survivors include his widow Ravenelle, two sons Gail and Eddie, daughter Delores, mother Ina s Tatum, sister Eva, and brothers J D Claude Lovington and Delton Brownfield Texas. Casket bearers listed.

Father Of Local Man Buried In Hobbs Monday
Funeral services were held in Hobbs Monday afternoon October 26 for Roscoe Frank Morgan father of Lovington resident James W. Morgan. Morgan died after a heart attack early Saturday while at Lea County Hospital. Born January 13 1899 in Hamburg Arkansas he was 34. He lived at 107 West Alston Hobbs worked as a carpenter and belonged to Local Carpenter Union. Survivors include his mother Sally Morgan Dermont Arkansas his widow one son and three daughters Mrs Exina Mae Blake Maghee Arkansas and Mrs Gladys Anne Smedley of the home and three grandchildren. Casketbearers were J H Gilliam Vernon C Roberts R A Schneider Ed Scherler J C Setters and W E Setters burial at Prairie Haven with Green Chapel in charge.

Hobbs Oilman Ernest Carter Dies at 66
Earnest Jesse Carter known as an oilman in Hobbs died Friday afternoon in Lea County Hospital at age 66. He served as chief engineer for the Atlantic Pipeline Co before retiring last July. Services were at First Baptist Church Hobbs and the body shipped to Minden Louisiana for burial. Survivors include his widow Cleo Carter, a daughter Mrs. C. H. Barker of Dallas, and two sons G. L. Carter of Hobbs and Lester Carter of Zephyr Texas.

Leroy Vann aged 57 of Hobbs died October 24 at a Seminole Texas Hospital from injuries suffered October 22 in an automobile accident. He was a passenger in a car driven by Lester Crow owner of the Band Box Hobbs. Body resting at Griffin Funeral Home Hobbs while relatives’ location is sought. Vann had lived in Hobbs since 1938, born in Oklahoma. Funeral home will hold the body several days to allow time for family locate. In 1950 Vann was arrested on libel charges connected to former sheriff Horace Burl Owens. he appeared as his own lawyer and the charges were dismissed.
