Tipps Purchases B and J Clothiers in Lovington

Bob Tipps announces the purchase of B and J Clothiers in Lovington. His father R E Tipps of Levelland and W N B Fields of Seagraves Texas are involved. Tipps, with years in the clothing business, plans to move with wife and two children Tommy nine and Karen Sue two. Coffman and Vaughn employees will remain under new management.

Kelly Roberts Leaves Before Hazel Arrived

Mr and Mrs Kelly Roberts and their son Kelton visited Mrs J B Love Kellys grandmother Monday night He is the son of Mr and Mrs Keyton Roberts of Cloudcroft Roberts an aviation machinist mate is being discharged from the Navy The family came to New Mexico from Norfolk Virginia leaving as Hurricane Hazel began but they missed most of it.

Amerada Crew Moves Back To Lovington

The Amerada Siesmotraph party No. 2 moved into Lovington last week and established offices in the Valley Lumber Co building near the Humble Service Station. Among those relocating were Mr and Mrs W H Wilder from Portales and Mr and Mrs Gail Hooper with Mr and Mrs Eddie Hooper, who also moved back last week.

Midland Man Denies Divorce Report From Lovington Leader

Ben Brannum of Midland Texas denies rumors of his divorce from Mrs Brannum as published last Thursday in the Lovington Leader. He notes a quiet title suit was settled last Tuesday in District Court while 21 divorces were granted in the same session. He says telegrams calls and letters poured in and threatens to sue the Leader for publishing the error. The publisher regrets the mistake and wishes she could offer a better excuse.

Spanish Class Dines At Rancho Grande Meet

The adult education group of about 30 members dined at the Rancho Grande Tuesday evening to practice Spanish and enjoy traditional dishes. Teacher Mirs. Lila Robinson led the session.

Parking Meters Frowned Upon by Lovington Officials

County Commissioners debated placing meters around the Courthouse square. Joe Smith sought meters on three sides to ease downtown parking for workers and visitors. Denson noted no official action yet and suggested reserving spaces for county officials.

Senator Dirksen to Speak at Hobbs Legion Hall

U S Senator Everett Dirksen Republican from Illinois will speak at the American Legion Hall in Hobbs at noon today. Box lunches will be served and the public is invited. Dirksen is described as one of the Senate’s best orators and well worth hearing.

Traffic Toll Rises to 282 in New Mexico This Year

Weekend crashes push New Mexico’s annual traffic toll to 282 with two deadly incidents. In Albuquerque a 38 year old woman Jane Smith died in a truck car collision 25 miles south of Santa Fe on US 85. Co passenger Jim D Trimble, 22, was seriously injured and remains in a Santa Fe hospital. Earlier, 62 year old George Washington Baldion of National City California died from injuries from a Oct 3 one car wreck near Hope after the vehicle left the highway and overturned twice.

Hall Says Eisenhower Had More Legislative Success

Republican National Chairman Leonard Hall says President Eisenhower has achieved far more in passing laws than President Truman. Hall told reporters in Washington that Ike’s batting average is 53 percent better than Truman’s.

Vegetable Packing Expands With Three Local Sheds

Lovington hosts three packing sheds with two already packing and shipping. The Melch and Stepp Tomato Co opened September first, Duncan Packing Co started October twelve with 201 acres of locally grown carrots, and Bodine Co will begin next week. Managers are L. H. Smith and Mix Johnson. Bodine, Phoenix headquarters, will operate locally employing 50.

A church sponsored enchilada supper will be held Saturday October 23 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Methodist Church. Service runs from 5 to 7 30 PM with adult tickets at 1.00 and children's at 60 cents.

Ten Passengers Jump From Bus And Escape Death

In Chicago the driver and ten passengers leapt from a stalled bus moments before an express train struck the vehicle on a rail line at the city’s northwest edge. The bus stalled as warning lights flashed, narrowly averting disaster.

Nixon Starts Ten State Campaign Tour

Vice President Nixon heads a wide campaign swing through ten states armed with confidence about GOP chances. He held a 50 minute White House talk with President Eisenhower and said Republicans have congressional elections won if they mobilize their strength.
