State seeks access to Lea County water sites in Lawrence suit
The State of New Mexico sues Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Lawrence in district court seeking permission to enter the Lawrence property in Lea County to locate wells and describe lands. A decree restraining use of water from the wells is requested. Judge Harris granted access on Oct 5 and ordered service of the order to the Lawrences. Also, John Campbell dba Ranchers Supply obtained a judgment against E K Hollard for 365.23 plus interest and costs with a writ of attachment.

98 Percent of Last Year's Taxes Paid Says Fisher
Lea County Treasurer Osborne Fisher reports that 98 percent of last year’s taxes have been paid. New 1950 tax notices will be mailed to taxpayers by month’s end. Lea County is responsible for $962,042.93 to be collected this year, with $943,066.60 already collected and $18,976.33 unpaid. Assessments for next year have not yet been received from Santa Fe, expected in November or December.

Lea County Electric Co op manager R B Moore spoke at the Lovington Lions Club meeting and led a tour of the new plant north of town on the Tatum highway. He cited 5 053 676 farms electrified nationwide, 86 3 percent, with 800 000 remaining. In New Mexico 19 435 of 29 695 farms have electricity, 65 4 percent, among the lower states. The plant now has three 1600 HP generators plus a 3500 HP unit ordered. total cost near 1 1/2 million dollars.
