Surplus Disposal Talks Move Toward Early Foreign Sales
Secretary Ezra Taft Benson told President Eisenhower in Denver that first foreign sales under the surplus disposal act should occur within days. Negotiations are under way with friendly nations for 384 million dollars in American agricultural surpluses exchanged for foreign currencies. The program authorizes 700 million dollars in sales over three years plus 300 million in disaster grants, with sales expected on competitive world prices. Benson also noted an impending announcement of the 1955 wool price support level.

W P Uncle Bud Estes 78 Midland Texas pioneer West Texas rancher and peace officer died last Tuesday at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a m in the W Ellis Chapel with Rev Clyde Lindsley officiating and interment in Fairview cemetery. Estes served as city marshal and deputy sheriff from 1924 to 1938 and had ranching interests in several counties. Surviving are four sons one brother one sister and seven grandchildren. He was born December 29 1875 in Mt Calm Texas moving to Stanton in 1898 then Gaines County before settling in Lea County New Mexico and Midland Texas.

Farm Worker Still In Poor Condition
Mexican farm worker Juan Jose remained in serious condition at Lea General Hospital after an accident on the Buddy Taylor farm 13 miles northeast of Lovington. He was injured when a truck trailer wheel struck his head while riding on a semi trailer with a cotton sack raised for rain protection. the sack entangled in a driveshaft and the rear wheel ran over the right front of his head. He has been unconscious for three days with only slight signs of improvement.
