At Lovington High School annual assembly on Friday May 12 awards were given for music band agriculture home economics and sports. Distinguished students including Dorothy Osborn Ann Badgett Barbara Wright Robbie Gann Joyce Culp Lemae Clisbee were named for letters with Lyra and stars. multiple merit certificates and special bronze medals were awarded to seniors and activity leaders.

Nine Teams to Play Softball at Lion's Club Park

Howard Fillman begins duties as Lovington Branch manager on May 7 replacing Bob Walton who moves to Roswell. Walton becomes an Industrial Machinery salesman for the region. Fillman, longtime Lovington resident since 1938, came from Chandler Oklahoma and married Emma York, with one son Gilbert Lee. He joined Smith Machinery April 9, 1948 when the Lovington Ranch was established.
