Bond Election Carried By Big Majority
The school bond election Tuesday carried by 164 votes to 4. The approved project will add two rooms to accommodate 6th and 7th grades. Architects are drafting plans and construction will begin promptly to enable use by September.

Final Rites Held Wednesday For Stella Holder
Funeral services were held at the Chapel of the Smith Yarbro Funeral Home for Mrs. Stella Adams Holder on Wednesday May 10 at 1 30 p m The service was led by Claude A Lortz minister of the First Christian Church of Clovis She was born August 6 1881 in Wise County Texas and died May 9 after a long illness at her home in Lovington She was survived by her brother Perry Adams of Tatum six grandchildren and four living sons A C Holder Tom Holder O J Holder and Bill Holder She was a member of the First Christian Church Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge Interment was in the Lovington Cemetery.

Fred Smith Abandons Appeal Accepts 15 to 25 Year Murder Term
Fred Smith surrendered to the district attorney in Lovington and was remanded to county jail to begin a 15 to 25 year sentence for second degree murder. He was convicted by a Lea County jury for the shooting of his stepson on Thanksgiving Day at the Half Way Station. Smith chose not to pursue an appeal, deciding to serve the term instead, with transfer to the State Penitentiary likely after arraignments on the 15th.

Farm Worker Killed on King's Acres
Nabor Castro Jr. a 23 year old Mexican farm worker, died after an engine exploded on the Floyd Burleson farm part of King’s Acres eight miles north and two miles east of the Denver City highway. His brother Paul was injured and Mrs Burleson also hurt. Castro died about an hour after the accident at Hobbs hospital.

Two Arrested In Robberies Here Sunday
Lovington police and sheriff’s deputies arrested Otis Joe Baxter of Lamesa Texas after a break in at Richard’s Motor Co. and Barney’s 66 Service Station last Sunday night. Loot was found on him and in a suitcase at the Plaza Hotel. a pair of field glasses valued at $100 remained missing. Baxter faces formal charges and a preliminary hearing Thursday.
