Lovington Church of Christ reports strong growth with packed Sundays and crowds. Elders approve two Sunday services starting May 7 with 8:30am early worship and 9:45am Bible study, led by minister Garnie Atkisson, inviting all in Loving ton area.
Mr and Mrs S M Watkins of Seagraves visited in the Gene Watkins home last week. Mr and Mrs P H Harris returned Sunday from Albuquerque. The Wards moved their small house to Tatum as part of their property there.
Lovington earned 47 points for second place at the first annual District 10 track and field meet held in Eunice on April 29. Harvey Teas led with a mile win and 880 yard relay, Ross Black won high jump, and Leonard Williams took two second places in sprint events. The Hobbs Lions Club traveling trophy went to the meet winner, with state meet spots earned by first place teams for Albuquerque on May 5 and 6.
The First Presbyterian Church of Lovington, Lea County oldest, organized in 1909 with J. O. Needham as first minister from Seminole. The original 1910 landmark building hosted services two Sundays monthly. a new church is planned though the present pastor has died. Parish elders and members continue services.
A meeting of the Softball Managers Sponsors and Lion's Ball Park committee is set for Monday night May 8 at 7 30 in the courthouse basement. Attendees are asked to enter through the South door.

The Methodist Church begins a $150000 three year pledge fund drive with an announcement dinner at the High School Cafeteria on Saturday May 6 at 730 pm. Dr Harold G Cook of McMurray College will speak. a steering committee leads with Billy Beauchamp as chair.

J W Buster Edwards prepares Mexican Cookery cookbooks now at the printer as part of his campaign for sheriff of Lea County. The booklets will be available soon to supporters and voters.
Graduation exercises are scheduled for Thursday evening May 18 in the new gymnasium. Dr. Martin L. Cole Dean of Eastern New Mexico University will deliver the principal address. Forty four graduates are named for the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.
The Lea County Betterment Society will meet at Lovington in the Nazarene Church Tuesday night. Amog Harper former Gaines County attorney will speak on liquor questions. J B Tidwell of Hobbs says no wet or dry election plans exist. Lea County voted on this in September 1948 and state law requires two years before another vote.
The Baccalaureate Sermon will be held Sunday evening May 14 at 8 00 PM in the new gymnasium. Rev. Robert Hous tion of First Methodist church was chosen by the Senior Class to deliver the message. The public is invited with a reserved section for graduating seniors parents.
Kenneth Scoggin joins a 21 man spring squad under Coach George McCarty as New Mexico Aggies begin second week of practice. Veteran contenders include Jimmy Blevens and Gene Wilder while transfers Don Driggers and Fred Haiman add experience. Clement and Budenholzer sidelined with injuries but expected back by fall.
The annual faculty banquet is set for Friday May 19 at 7:00 P M in the cafeteria building. School board members and their spouses teachers and their spouses are invited to attend. A special program has been prepared for the event.
Lovington school events include Annual Band Night May 15 in the new gym at 8 PM led by Director Durward Crain. An Awards Assembly for seniors is set May 12 and a school bond election May 9 with a $200000 request to add a 12 room unit for grades six and seven.
Julia Ann Owens of Lovington receives the State Homemaker's Degree the first for the Lovington Chapter. She is named an alternate delegate to the National Convention in Kansas, with seven Lovington FHA members attending the Las Vegas state convention April 28 and 29.
The Farm Bureau invites members to a social and covered dish dinner Friday May 12 at 7 30 p m at the Bull Barn. Bring dominos or Canasta cards a card table a covered dish and family. Margaret's Nursery will care for babies courtesy of the Farm Bureau President Comper Hudgens.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Beavers returned from a trip to Snyder and Lubbock last week.
