Pilot Bails Out Of F-85 Near Roswell Duststorm
First Lieutenant Beidward A. Schall of the 428th Fighter Bomber Squadron at Clovis bailed from his F-85 H jet when landing at Roswell became impossible due to dust and wind. The aircraft wreckage was found five miles west and one mile south of Dexter between Roswell and Artesia. Schall, flying from Nellis to Walker Air Force Base, spent the night with his parachute and was later taken to Roswell by local workers.

The New Mexico Traffic Safety Commission reports 1955 fatal hours were 5–6 pm 7–8 pm and 1–2 pm with 32 27 and 27 deaths respectively. August was the deadliest month with 52 fatalities. total 360 killed 3,600 injured across 10,261 urban rural accidents. Urban deaths 41 vs rural 319. drinking violations drive most crashes.
