Weekend Traffic Takes Five Lives

Four year old Janeva Acosta dies after brief illness
Janeva Acosta aged four died suddenly at Lea General Hospital on March 26 after a short illness. Born in Albuquerque on October 21, 1951 she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Greg ory Acosta who worked on the F. M. Hester farm. An inquest was set for Tuesday afternoon in Lovington with funeral services at the Baptist Mission in Lovington at 10 a m conducted by Rev B C Andro. Burial followed in Lovington Cemetery.

Missing oil pipe reported by Standard Oil in Hobbs
Standard Oil Company notified Hobbs police that pipe valued at 20 dollars vanished from a lease. The missing items include 27 feet of three inch pipe 39 feet of two inch pipe and an unknown amount of hog wire. The loss was discovered on Saturday and reported on Monday.

Arrested Second Time in Month for Drunken Driving
Ed Lou Garrard, 39, of 419 West White Hobbs, was arrested for drunken driving on February 19 1956. He posted a 125 bond that was forfeited after he failed to appear, his license suspended for one year, and at 8 35 am Sunday he was again found intoxicated and charged with second offense driving while intoxicated and license suspension. He offered a bribe of 50 to avoid arrest, which was refused. Judge Bob Bensing fined 100 and imposed 90 days in jail suspended.
