Latimer and Perry Admit Unemployment Benefit Fraud
Latimer and James P. Perry of Clovis pled guilty in District Court to falsely claiming unemployment benefits. Judge John R. Brand ordered repayment of $140 and the other four weekly benefits, withheld final judgment for six months, and noted restitution for Perry and Latimer.

Tatum Old Timer Buried Saturday
Lewis L. Derrick a 91 year old Tatum resident was buried in Tatum Cemetery after funeral services at the Methodist Church. He died last Thursday at his daughter's ranch home in Tatum and was born in Lamar County Texas on December 18 1863. He moved to New Mexico in 1887 and to his present home in 1912. Survivor includes his wife Mrs. Derrick two other daughters 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Casketbearers were Buddy Medlin Frank Whitley Henry Rutherford Kenny Hall George Johnson Ed Johnson Elwood Wildman and Joe Black. Mrs. Derrick died in 1934 their son in 1923 and a grandson was killed in Italy in 1944.

28th Annual Old Folks Day at Prairieview
A large crowd is expected for Old Folks Day at Prairieview with a 10 o'clock start featuring gospel singing and talks. A memorial will honor members lost since last year, and ribbons mark ages 60 70 and 80 plus. Dad Bailey of Hobbs, age 104, may attend. Door prizes honor those over 60 and the oldest man and woman. The State American Legion Convention ends in Hobbs with officer elections and selecting a site for the 1955 meeting. The 40 and 8 organized a Hobbs unit. Gov. Edwin L. Reported AWOL from Ft Knox Kentucky since August 1954. Mother Mrs Sallie Jenkins of Burhwood Tennessee. Jenkins turned over to the army. Johnny M. Hard 20 moved from Tatum to Lovington area and was arrested after a man bought a cheap 22 rifle from him and alerted police. Investigators linked items to burglaries in Lamesa, Tatum, Hobbs, and the Smith ranch near Ta tum. Valued around 2000 dollars, loot included a sewing machine and jewelry. Hard and his wife were arraigned with bond set at 1000 dollars. Mrs Hard released on her own recognizance.
