Lovington FFA Kids Rodeo Crowns Girls Contenders
Fifty one contestants entered six events over three days of fun with girls sweeping top honors. Barbara Jean Mullins of Fort Sumner won the overall rodeo with high points mainly from Ribbon Roping, while D Aun Young of Lovington took runner-up best all around cowboy. Other event winners included Bill Arnett Clovis and Olin Young Lovington. More results to follow Friday. Frank Decatur White hosted a gas cooking school in Lovington, then in Santa Fe, sponsored by Southern Union Gas.

The Lovington Lions opened the season Monday night with a doubleheader against Humble and Amerada Play ed Ta 1m. Eight thousand dollars funded the Lions field, built by the Lions Club led by Dave Erwin. Nine teams compete with three doubleheaders weekly and single games midweek. Admission ranges 10 to 20 cents with children half price, parking available inside the fence.
