County Agent J I Perkins urges farmers to inspect fields for young bollworms or eggs and begin spraying early. With four small bollworms detected, spraying is advised using taxaphene or taxaphene with DDT, or DDT dusts with sulfur, to control bollworm infestations in Lea County.
Lovington school nurse Miss Gamille Byers will tour homes of children starting school this fall. She will answer parents questions and discuss the book So He Starts to School which outlines Lovington schools entrance requirements. The booklet was prepared by Lee W. Burt and endorsed by Supt. H. C. Pannell to read fully.
Speight and Gene Parks face district court action on murder charges after a long hearing. Witness testimony traced the day’s events from a downtown street encounter to the Midwest Drug stop and the shootings that killed Officer Butler and Ira Grantham. Sheriff Charlie Trimble traveled to California to extradite Norman Lane to Lea County on forgery charges. He was accompanied by Mrs. Trimodle and their three children in the unexpected departure last week.

School superintendents join the 1951 summer institute for bus drivers at New Mexico Western College from July 30 to August 3. A new course Joint Problems of Bus Drivers and Superintendents will link driver and administrator views on transportation. Leaders include C O Prevost Rex Bell J T Clegg H C Pannell and Tom Wiley guiding daily sessions.
Parents are reminded of vaccination laws for children entering New Mexico schools. Children must be vaccinated and immunized before enrollment. The county nurse, Miss Kalgetter, offers free vaccination and immunization services. certificates and birth certificates must be presented on enrollment day and will be returned after recording.
Benny Charles Marcus aged seven son of Mr and Mrs F A Marcus of Lovington was badly burned Wednesday July 25 after falling into a tub of hot water at the Marcus Cafe. He was treated at Lovington Hospital then transferred to Gaines County Hospital at Seminole. He remains in serious condition awaiting skin grafts and possible weeks to months of recovery with blood transfusions ongoing.
K T Toeplitz Hobbs health officer has filed a petition seeking a refund of 67 94 dollars in county taxes.
The first Dollar Day in over a year unfolds Friday August 3 with merchants urged to offer real value and stock liquidation items. Shoppers are encouraged to visit stores in the Leington trade area to buy needed goods and items for future gifts and Christmas.
James Rawls of the Hobbs News Sun violated a district court order by taking pictures in the courthouse and courthouse lawn of Gene and Speight Parks. The order, on the docket since October 1946 by former Judge James B. McGee, remains active amid a $100,000 libel suit against the Lovington Leader.
A Sunday highway crash 15 miles west of Tatum injured T Sgt J S Strickner Jr of Roswell Air Base. Investigators Undersheriff James Robinson and Deputy Jewell McAdoo attributed the accident to a blowout on the right rear tire. The 1941 Ford four door sedan sustained bruises and cuts.

W. W. Cox of Lovington was brought back by Under sheriff James Robinson after signing extradition papers. Cox is charged with taking a mortgaged automobile out of the state, the vehicle recently purchased from the Aldridge Car Lot on North Main Street.
Sheriff Charlie Trimble and his family are expected to start for home Monday after the extradition trial of Norman Lane, the Hobbs musician wanted on hot check charges. Lane refused to waive extradition.
J. W. Ballew sues S. Dysart or Bernalillo County for 3747.68 claiming services on an oil well. Bob Daniels and Sons Inc. sues M L. Theriac for 1290.08 in insurance remedy.
Lovington superintendent H C Pannell calls for teachers especially in primary grades and for apartment housing for staff. With a growing population and many transfers daily the housing shortage worsens. Those with rental housing are asked to contact Pannell.
R H Miller trading as Eunice Locker Plant sues Pecos Valley Construction Co for 30000 claiming blasting damaged his business building during utility work in Lea County and reconstruction. D W Brown of Kermit seeks 6500 from Shell Pipe Line after a Be 21 collision with an 18 Plymouth causing 1800 damage. Richardson sues Hill Truck Lines for 50000 alleging pain and loss of time from an accident between Clovis and Portales. asks 4000 for vehicle damage and 50000 for pain.
Marvin Frazier sues W H Anderson of Tatum in District Court seeking 286.18 for car damages after his 1950 Buick Sedanette collided with a cow crossing the highway five miles north of Tatum. The petition notes Anderson owns land on both sides and a broken corner post allowed cattle to reach the road on October 24, 1950 around 6 PM.
The Magnolia Petroleum Club met Friday night July 27 at the Bull Barn for their regular monthly gathering. Turner's Orchestra provided music for dancing and refreshments including sandwiches salads and soft drinks were served. A large crowd attended.
Stephen Markey, son of Mr and Mrs H C Markley of Lovington, broke a collar bone after falling from a bed during a weekend vacation in El Paso. He is reported as improving satisfactorily.
Keller, to take duties as Lea County jailor, displays a fine pair of spurs gifted by a Roswell friend. He says the spurs will aid in self defense and show them off at the next Pamesiéa event.
