The Lovington area fair announces prizes for farm exhibits including best overall, best canned goods and peaches. Top prizes include 7.50, 5.00, and 2.00 dollars, with first prizes for canned peaches and other categories. Also offers subscriptions to the Lovingtom Leader for one year and six months.
The town of Seminole invites residents to a Saturday afternoon session at the Court House to discuss a proposed line from San Antonio to Tucumcari crossing the T and P. A contractor seeks inducements, and the Commercial Club will be reorganized. citizens urged to attend. Also notes on a canning factory effort and local land improvements.
F Muller reports from the land office at Fe that state land will be leased this week to homesteaders and ranchers. Leases run five years with cancelation if sold, price not less than five dollars per acre with down payment and thirty yearly installments at 4 percent interest. Public auction to be advertised ten weeks prior. Crowds fill the office as claims are filed and bids prepared.
A Lovington group rode 20 miles west to the Garrett ranch Saturday night, staying until Monday for hospitality. They enjoyed a Saturday supper, songs, and music by young ladies, then toured the tunnel under the cap rock near Browning ranch on Sunday with cave photos and playful mining humor.
Roswell New Mexico voters approved a local option on July 18, casting 1 142 ballots to go wet by 256. The decisive election ended a bitter three year effort by anti prohibition forces and followed prior anti prohibition gains in last year’s municipal race.
A group including Miss Kate Hamilton Miss Beatrice Chappell Metser Claud Creighton and George Shepard left on a Monday outing and bid farewell to the Garrett family. They returned to town and left behind an open face gold watch with black leather fob bearing Lyonhead from the P. S. Eaves & Co store on July 22. The possessor should return it to avert trouble.
Edward Hest hosted a birthday gathering for his young friends at his west town residence yesterday afternoon. Guests included Hermen Robinson Dora Meadows Kate Meadows Bessie Eaven Chester Shepard Ethel Montgote jery Olian Lee Pete Ellis Eloyd Elim Raymond Eaves Harrold Cleghorn Myrtie Crawford Frank Caudill and Charlie Forrester. They played games from 3 to 5 pm then enjoyed cake and lemonade before returning home wishing Edward many happy birthdays.
